My Own Whimsy

Revlon Blue Lagoon (092) is gorgeous in the bottle, but I was left disappointed with the application. The formula is sheer and prone to streakiness, which usually means I have to paint at least 3 thick layers to eliminate any bald spots. Having to paint multiple coats wouldn't be so much of a problem if the colour didn't become increasingly less appealing with each layer. It goes from a pale baby blue with a resplendent white microshimmer to almost a flat sky blue by the third coat. I was really hoping for something lighter and more pastel. After only a day I was already bored of it, so I decided to jazz things up with a bazillion coats of China Glaze Techno (which I'd been itching to wear properly since I bought it from Paddy's Markets). The result reminded me of a super blinged up version of Revlon Whimsical, which was completely unintentional, and because of that, all the more pleasing. Techno on top manages to soften the brightness of Blue Lagoon. I'm loving the larger holographic hex glitter in Techno and how it gives the illusion of multicoloured glitter. I think the effect would be even more pronounced over a dark base, which I'm keen to try next.

  3. The final effect looks amazing. It's a shame that the formula of Revlon isn't good.

I'm actually Chinese, but I get Korean a lot (which I really take as a compliment - I think Korean girls are gorgeous) :) I just Googled Yoon Eun Hye and trust me, I look nothing like her - though I wish I did ;)

  9. This has to be one of my favourite nail looks ever! You've transformed it from the Blue Lagoon into a glacial lagoon. I'm glad you could get the Revlon polish to work for you.

    1. Not sure I have a tip! I usually like to do a lot of coats, which means that after a few days, the nail polish is a bit easier to peel off because it starts to separate/loosen from the nail. Otherwise, I have to stick with scraping it off (terrible habit) or soaking my nail in nail polish remover and scrubbing it off that way. I heard a base coat makes it slightly easier to remove the polish. It's my least favourite part of wearing glitter nail polish, but a necessary evil since I love glitters so much :)

Shame that blue lagoon doesn't look nice on it's own! Disappointing Revlon!!!
I hope you have a base coat on ;)

  18. I love how you combined the 2 polishes. Too bad the revlon one doesn't work well, because the color is sooooo pretty and a bit rare I think.
It's such a pitty when nail polish looks only pretty on the bottle :/

  27. This does remind me quite a bit of Revlon's Whimsical even though the blue tone is way off haha - but something about it just resembles. I hate it when polishes don't look like the colour you see in the bottle and with streakyness it's worst but at least glitter always saves the day :P This is a great combo, but that's if you're willing to fight the battle with Blue Lagoon in the near future again haha :P

  29. It looks so nice! I wanted to buy a glittery nail polish like yours, but the shop assistant told me it's difficult to apply. The exact words were'You will have to fish them'. Is it so hard to pick the glittery parts?

    ReplyDelete

    1. It depends on the density of the polish, some of them aren't as dense and you do need to "fish" out the glitter, namely poke your brush where the glitter pieces are and make sure they're positioned at the tip so they can be transferred to your nail. But for Techno, it's a fairly dense polish anyway, so I didn't need to do any particular positioning. Especially with 3 coats, the nail was more or less covered entirely with the glitter :)

  34. Ah, sorry to hear the formula on Blue Lagoon is no good. That polish is on my wishlist, but I have heard so many bad things about its application. I do love the blingy look with all the glitters on top! :-)

  36. Wow those came really great together. I think my problem why I cant get that awesome look is because I dont let the coat of the first color dry properly. :(
