Lightly Does It

Sleek Rose Gold is a blush I had to have. After hearing so many positive reviews about the quality and pigmentation of Sleek blushes, with Rose Gold frequently identified as the standout, it didn't take me long to cave in and order one for myself. The blush contains 8g of product in a rectangular pan, housed in a small but sturdy-feeling black case with an interior mirror.

Residual shimmer after blending out the blush with my finger

I would describe the colour as an intense coral packed with gold shimmer. Blended out, it can be quite a soft pinkish/reddish peach, but still obviously shimmery with a gold gleam. Given that both the colour and the shimmer are strong, this blush isn't the easiest to wear as it's relatively easy to accidentally overdo it. A lot depends on the brush used. I've found the Mineral Powder Brush from the Ecotools Bamboo 5 piece set to work the best for me, ever-so-gently dipping it into the pan and building up colour as needed. The brush is flat enough so it can be angled for more precise application, while the shape and softness of the bristles helps to thoroughly blend. Personally, as striking as it is, I don't reach for this blush as part of my routine in the mornings because it's a little too loud and not the easiest to manage. Bolder, peachier shades also have an unfortunate tendency to make me look slightly sunburnt. Rose Gold would be better suited as a statement blush for a glowy summery look, or lightly applied for evening glamour.

  2. This is the first review I've read that hasn't totally fawned over this blush! I haven't tried any Sleek blushes yet but would like too... And I think I have too many dupes for Rose Gold (e.g. MAC Springsheen). x

    1. Woah, I just Googled MAC Springsheen and judging from the pictures, the two are really close. I think Springsheen is probably a bit more wearable and a touch lighter and not so glittery. I'd like to try Sleek blushes in some other shades, it's difficult since they're not available here to decide what colour would be best. Hence why the Blush by 3 palettes should be released, at least if you purchased one you'd have three chances to get one right :p
