Variations of Rose

If a beauty addict sees Bourjois blush pots for about 75% off ... well, you can finish the rest of that sentence. One aimless Sunday, I was wandering around in Target and hovering around the Bourjois stand. While looking at the Delice de Soleil bronzer, I saw one of the blushes on sale for under $5. At first I thought it was only for the one seemingly unpopular shade (Brun Cuivre) as the sign indicated, but I scanned another just in case. And sure enough, it was similarly discounted. Mad grabbing ensued. Unfortunately, there wasn't Rose Ambre which I've been eyeing, but there were 7 shades still available. I picked up 5 of them (leaving Brun Cuivre and Ambre D'Or, which I now regret not purchasing).

Due to my serendipitous haul, I now have amassed a mini collection of these Bourjois baked blushes (though Cecilia's stash remains the ultimate). I previously only had Rose D'Or (34) which I featured in this post. It's one of my most reached for blushes that gives a natural looking, relatively subtle rosiness to the cheeks. I prefer that it's not super pigmented as it makes it easier to work with. Swatched alongside the other 5 shades, it appears much more of a cool pink while the rest are warmer, more reddish and deeper pinks.

l-r: Rose Éclat, Rose Coup de Foudre, Lilas D'Or, Rose D'Or, Rose Frisson, Rose de Jaspe

l-r: Rose Éclat (15), Rose Coup de Foudre (16), Lilas D'Or (33), Rose D'Or (34)

l-r: Lilas D'Or (33), Rose D'Or (34), Rose Frisson (54), Rose de Jaspe (95)

Rose Éclat (15) One of the more pigmented shades. Almost like a matte. Though there are bits of shimmer in the blush itself, it's barely discernable when applied. The colour is a darker, burnished rose with reddish tones, making it more an autumnal shade.

Rose Coup de Foudre (16) Pinky apricot with a golden sheen. The shimmer is more detectable in this one and the colour gives a healthy, natural glow to the face.

Lilas D'Or (33) Red-leaning coral with an abundance of gold shimmer. Not the best colour for me due to the red tones that make me look like I accidentally dozed off in the solarium (I continue to have no luck with coral blush, see also Sleek Rose Gold and BYS Coral). This one needs to be applied lightly as it's quite pigmented. The shimmery particles are also the most noticeable.

Rose Frisson (54) One of the more matte looking shades, like Rose Éclat. This is warm rosy pink that gives a girly, youthful flush without looking obvious or harsh.

Rose de Jaspe (95) Looks very similar to Lilas D'Or in the swatch, but I prefer Rose de Jaspe. It applies like a slightly more vivid pink (with stronger gold shimmer) than the lighter Rose Frisson, which is a touch more muted and natural looking. Rose de Jaspe really warms up the face and the shimmer is very glowy without being over the top like Lilas D'Or.

Along with Rose D'Or, my favourites are Rose Coup de Foudre, Rose Frisson and Rose de Jaspe. There aren't any drastic differences between the shades, but I wouldn't say any of them look identical when worn, as they all have varying pigmentation, shimmer and tones (warmer, cooler, more red/pink/peach). These pot blushes have a distinctive powdery scent and come with a mini curved brush that I'd safely assume most beauty enthusiasts would promptly discard, in favour of their normal blush brushes. The little mirror inside is a nice touch, but personally it's too small to be truly helpful (that, or my face is just too big). These also last forever: I've had Rose D'Or for around a year and it honestly looks in the same condition as the ones I just bought (except for the small scratch I made at the surface when the top layer started hardening).

  2. I am positively salivating- your Bourjois blush collection is such a dream. I saw one for under $5 but it was an ugly brown with gold shimmer that I could not imagine using. So disappointed there weren't more to choose from at my local Target. And I completely understand about the mirror being miniscule, or my face being too big- you can't see a thing! So envious :P xx

    2. I found them! (at 75% off- I don't need to say that part) Yay! I got Rose Coup de Foudre and Rose Frisson. I wanted Rose de Jaspe but they didn't have it! I considered purchasing another Rose Ambre, but I figured Rose Frisson was kinda similar so I didn't bother. I did think about getting it for you though! :p

    3. Yay! :) I'm pretty sure they're $5 at all Target stores. Not sure why they're so heavily discounted, but definitely not complaining. So sweet of you to think of me ;D Enjoy your blushes - do let me know your thoughts.

  3. Awesome finds, darling! Hey, maybe the two other shades you didn't buy (plus the one you've been eyeing) would be available the next time you fancy going to that Bourjois stand in Target. Haha good luck! (:

  8. WOW what a bargain!! I bought Rose D'Or several years ago and it's the only Bourjois blush I own. While I do love it, I feel like it's hard to pick up a lot of colour and I really have to work my brush into the pot - almost like the blush has kind of dried up over time? I swear it wasn't that hard when I first got it..

  13. your so lucky to find such a great offer. I always end up swatching bourjois blushers but not buying them because i really dislike their bulky packaging. However, the pigmentation is great and i do love the colours because they are so natural and blends very well to give that subtle flush. My favourite out of the ones you bought is 'Rose D'Or' because its the perfect dolly pink and very pretty for summer :) Thanks for sharing and the swatches~x

  20. Aw, I have to go in to check at my Target if they have any of these, there's no objection against owning more Bourjois blushes! Ambre D'Or is actually probably my favourite Bourjois blush even though it isn't as pigmented as the others; it's such a beautiful bronzey/light apricot colour that suits the Summer time. xx

  34. OMG OMG you really made me want all of them!
I really like the pink packaging ( and of course all the pink shade blushes ). It's not too big, compact and cute!
Bourjois is unfortunately expensive here.. We don't have them on our drugstore ( yes, our drugstore is so boring ), but we can buy them through asos.
I've heard a olot of good things about the blushes, bronzer and the healthy mix foundation. looks like bourjois is a good competitor for rimmel..

  35. Now I'm itching to go to some local Targets, what a great deal! I actually like Brun Cuivre, I find that it's a warm and healthy colour on the skin :) And I'd love to get my hands on Rose Coup de Foudre and Rose Frisson (although they do look very similar ...), it seems they will give a wonderful flush of colour.

  36. These blushes look so pretty! I've always wanted to try them out, but never caught them on sale. I think for once, your pricing for bourjois is actually cheaper compared to my area lol :P

  39. What an awesome sale to stumble across! Glad to see you made the most of it. Once again this was a helpful little post. Your break-downs of shades and finishes are always so detailed. So thanks for that. Like you, I also love Rose D'Or. It's not the easiest blush to work with (if it's not applied with care, I often find it can look a little patchy) but the colour's sweet. Oh, and I threw the brush out immediately too! I felt a little sad about it though. It's so cute!

  41. I love these blushers and what a bargain too! I'd have done the same thing :) If you do see Rose Ambre, I'd definitely say pick it up because it is so beautiful x

  42. $5 a pot?! That's an awesome deal! I didn't see that in Target when I was there last. I would have picked up one too many actually. Haha.

I have 4 in my collection - #16, #34, #35, #94 and I must say I like all the shades but my favourites are #16 and #34. Something about these blushes have a luxurious feel to them. I am liking the looks of Rose Eclat from your swatches. Might pick that one up next time they have a similar deal!

I find the only thing I don't like is that as you mentioned, the top layer hardens and I have to literally scrape the top layer off too get a decent amount of product to deposit.

  46. What a lovely bargain :) Its always so nice to stumble up on these kinda sales :) I really love the look of them all, especially Rose Coup de Foudre :)
It was a sale like this that opened my eyes to OPI polishes... some of them were on a huge sale a while ago... they usually cost about 16 euros over here and that is a bit expensive :)

Yay for your amazing bargains :)

  50. I love how the colors look so natural :) I'm more of a bronzer type person but i really like how these colors looked swatched. It's cool to hear the colors dont look alike when you apply it on the skin because they do look somewhat similar! that's a plus. sounds like they're good quality. Rose Coup de Foudre looks like a wonderful shade ^_^
