Blue Trend

Nails Inc. Baker Street might be better known as "that polish Beyoncé wore after she had Blue Ivy". I've had my eye on this famous cobalt blue for quite a while, but what always stopped me was this niggling suspicion that I already had a very similar shade back at home, Ulta3 Blue Marlin. When I unexpectedly spotted Baker Street on sale at a chemist near my work, I decided it was a sign that we were meant to be. Plus, even if the colour ended up being an exact dupe of Blue Marlin (unlikely), I'm such a fan of the Nails Inc. formula that it would've still been worth it.

Once at home, I tested Baker Street next to the darker, more navy Blue Marlin, and thankfully they were sufficiently different to justify having both. After enthusiastically painting both hands with Baker Street and closely examining my nails over several days, I've concluded that for me, the colour is only "pretty good", not "mindblowingly, heart-stoppingly amazing". I can see why some might think it's truly an exceptional shade, but to me it's just a bit too medium blue with a hint of creaminess and nothing else. It reminds me of a darker shade of primary blue or the non-metallic version of deep, bright blue car paint. Don't get me wrong, I imagine this exact shade of blue would be hard to find a perfect dupe of, and it is unique and eye-catching, but I just don't personally adore it. Something tells me without Beyoncé's personal endorsement as documented through pap snaps, Baker Street wouldn't be anywhere near as popular or coveted. The impeccable Nails Inc. formulation doesn't disappoint though, with an absolutely buttery consistency that is largely opaque with one coat, and with two, leaves your nails looking so smooth, glossy, evenly painted and neatly manicured.

  1. This was a Beyonce inspired purchase for me too, plus i spotted it on holiday with 30% off! I love the formula and the colour but I agree that without Queen Bey's helped it wouldn't be so popular. I do love it most with a Breton top for some reason, it makes me feel very chic! xx

  5. Looks like a really pretty colour although I personally wouldn't choose anything like this. Probably just to use it as a base for my Orly's Angel Rain...it would be a waste of Nails Inc. nail polish..

Anyway, take care, have a nice day!*

  9. To be honest, I would actually buy this just for the name - that's the Sherlock fan in meh. I think Sally Hansen Pacific Blue is similar, probably a bit lighter and more periwinkle-toned but fills the hole for me. I do want to try some Nails inc polishes though as their formula sounds really nice!

  11. A beautiful manicure as always, and a lovely colour for certain. I feel the same way about this shade - beautiful but nothing I need to rave about

  12. The Nails Inc. formula is definitely one of the best out there. Shame the colour isn't better for you! It's very pretty, though.

  13. This colour is stunning - if it was a dress, this would be all mine! I've never tried Nails Inc nail polishes before but I have heard tons of amazing things about its formula! Hopefully Sephora will have these on sale soon!

  14. Yeah this shade of blue really isn't my thing… I think I'm happy enough with my Sally Hansen "Pacific Blue" and will leave my bold blue collection at that. Good job Beyzus for endorsing this polish though haha I'm sure nails inc was happy ;)

  16. I saw your instagram picture of this nail polish and thought it looked really pretty. Although it's too bad it didn't live up to the hype in your mind but I think it still looks great. This medium kind of blue is starting to grow on me, I never really gravitated towards colours like this before but I think I might go through my formula x set since there seems to be a bright blue similar to this. :)

  18. I actually had no idea Beyoncé had anything to do with this polish, lol! I picked it up randomly in Sephora two years ago and fell in love with it. It's stunning on the toes in the summer. :D The shade does seem to be slightly more muted in your picture though. It's so odd that nail polishes can look different in the bottles and on the hands... but luckily we're not lacking for any options.

  19. I have this nail polishes and the colour is absolutely amazing but I don't know how I feel about the formula. It chips quite easily for me so I don't wear it often because it means I have to keep up with it too often. xx

  24. Pretty and bold!
I just realized I haven't worn blue creme for so long. This reminds me of my Essie Mesmerize bottle. It is pretty but incredibly staining. I can only wear it once in a while.. ;-/

  26. Hahaha! I'll admit that I do LOVE my Baker Street because I have an obsession with all things cobalt blue, although now you're making me kick myself for overlooking the Ulta3 alternative!

  28. I was really tempted to pick this up, after seeing about a thousand features about Bey's 'coveted' polish, but I have to admit, I had a lot of the concerns you voiced when I saw it in person - it's just not as 'wow' as I'd expected, and for the Nails Inc. price-tag, it would have to be just slightly more intense, for me. It's still a lovely shade, though, and perfect for spring/summer xx
