Custard Cover

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer seemed slated to be perpetually out of stock. Every time I stepped into Mecca Cosmetica and enquired about it, I left empty-handed. When I finally managed to take home a tube after months of intermittent searching, rather than feeling triumphant, I was almost underwhelmed. I mean, how good could a concealer really be that justified that kind of persistence in tracking it down?

One of the major selling points of the Radiant Creamy Concealer was surprisingly, the price. It retails for $35 at Mecca Cosmetica, which isn't that far off the US price of $29 (with tax and currency conversion, it's almost the same). I'm not sure why NARS has decided to price the concealer the way it has, but I'm hardly complaining. In comparison, NARS Sheer Glow is $68 here compared with $45 in the US, while an eyeshadow duo is a whopping $55 compared with $35.

For the longest time, I convinced myself I needed the second lightest shade Vanilla, but I finally came to my senses and accepted I'm not as pale as I want to be, so Custard it was. The reality is I fall somewhere between those two shades, but I suppose with concealer, I'd rather go for something slightly darker than lighter. I don't use concealer to brighten any darkness under the eyes (which Vanilla might be a better choice for), but mainly to cover up blemishes or redness. I find Custard matches well with NARS Sheer Glow in Fiji. If I opt for a paler base (like when I mix a bit too much of CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation in Buff Beige with Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation in Soft Beige) and don't blend the concealer well enough with the surrounding skin, the mismatch between the two can be obvious, particularly in natural daylight.

As for the actual product, it does live up to the hype. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Sand is a decent drugstore dupe (very similar packaging and texture), but the NARS is superior in terms of coverage and longevity. What I love most about the Radiant Creamy Concealer is that you can dab it onto problem areas with your fingers and it doesn't immediately smear and smudge all over the place. I find with other cheaper concealers like the Maybelline Fit Me or Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer, I have to take extra care and usually use a brush to lightly stipple over my spots/scarring so that the product evenly covers and disguises the blemish. With the NARS, the concealer covers at first instance and adheres to the skin even when you dab over it. It sets well and lasts the whole day.

You only need a small amount each time, so I imagine the tube lasting quite a while. A few touches of the Radiant Creamy Concealer instantly rescues skin that looks a bit rough and in need of some perfecting. Even placed over foundation that's faded and slipped off at the end of the day, it doesn't look cakey. A new makeup bag staple.

  2. So basically, what I got from this post is that I need this product in my life. Currently using the Collection 2000 concealer which is great but I wonder how this compares. xx

  3. Oh my, I need this in my life! As of now, I'm still using MUFE Full Cover Concealer (that stuff is super water resistant and covers like a champ!) but I'm thinking of straying away with NARS.. If I could get a sample size of this from Sephora, I'd be thrilled :) x

  4. Sounds like this highly-raved concealer does exactly what it claims to do. I am a concealer junkie and I have lots of concealers for under eye but lack a good one for blemishes. This one sounds it is perfect for that. Will keep this in mind when I go shopping next.

  5. I really like this concealer. I used it in Vanilla, and I don't think I'm light enough for it either, but I think Custard would be too dark. I think Honey is the one that I need. But I'm using It Cosmetics concealer right now, so I don't need to repurchase this yet.

  7. You must be happy to finally have it after so many failed times trying to buy it! It sounds really good but I've got something waterproof enough for my sweaty face! I would love to try this but it's DAMN expensive here! The maybelline could be a good dupe? Wowie, I need to get that first!

  8. This concealer seems to be a big want in everyone's wish list (including mine) =) i used to have Custard in another version of Nars' concealers. It wasn't good or hydrating like this one.

  10. This concealer is also always in my online shopping cart, but I always click close in the end without buying this.. mainly because I am so unwilling to spend so much money on concealer as I am soooo satisfied with my concealer from ZA, an asian drugstore brand. And my encounter with NARS has not been very pleasant until now.. well maybe one day I will give this concealer a try ^^

  14. I've been eyeing this for awhile, because it sounds great for blemishes. I like the Maybelline Fit Me but yeah, the staying power isn't there.

  15. I didn't realise the price was so reasonable! This may have to be my next concealer purchase then. I'm really quite enjoying the Maybelline Fit me but I agree with you that you need extra care in blending to not remove coverage.

  16. This concealer is AMAZING! I've had it for a while and there's still quite a bit in the tube. It's absolutely worth the price.

  17. Ouch at those prices! You really get the short end of the stick over there!
As for the product- I'm sold. It's on my to-buy list. :)

  19. Sounds like I need this. I didn't like the Fit Me concealer thaaat much- it was alright but the shade match of 20 Sand was borderline orange. Is the tone of Custard okay for Asian undertones?

    1. I'd say Sand and Custard are pretty similar. Custard can look a bit orangey and dark if you're going for a paler base. Ideally, I'd guess you want something between Vanilla and Custard to match Asian skin tones. Honey seems way too warm/peachy/pink.

  22. It's great to hear that this is a product you'd recommend. I use the Wake Me Up concealer, & I completely agree that it just smears all over the place & takes forever to work in, pretty much to cover up hardly anything. I might have to buy this one!

  23. I am not big on concealers so I did not know about this one! Sounds amazing. I hate working with concealers and totally understand what you mean. I'm getting even more attracted by the brand lately, and certainly will consider this next time. ;)

  24. I really wanted to try out this one, but I'm always scared of ordering it online since we don't have NARS counters here (which is really sad...like really...), not even at sephora.
I really think that this would be wonderful for my under eyes since they are pretty dark and need some coverage. The packaging is a must for me <3

    Take care*

  25. I really want to try the Nars concealer, but in the meantime I think I'll pick up the Maybelline Fir Me! Thanks for the review :)

  27. I've had my eye on this for a little while, at the moment I'm trying not to buy any make up at all and I do have a soft spot for a lot of really affordable concealers so I'm trying to tell myself I don't need it. Does sound like it's worthy of all the hype though, so maybe I'll give in eventually!

  28. Ahhhhh! Thanks so much for reviewing this - I've been keeping my eyes peeled ever since I saw it on your Instagram (um, stalker...hehe). I've toyed with purchasing it on several occasions now; I'm glad it lives up to the hype! x

  29. Does it feel oily at all? Do you set with powder at all? I'd like to try this for those random spots I sometimes get!

    1. No, it's definitely not oily. I usually don't set with powder but I don't think it makes a big difference if I do, especially since I use it in such a targeted way. It is great for covering up spots and also any scarring from previously active breakouts.

  30. Ah, I'm in the market for a new concealer soon, so thanks for this review! I'm totally like you and usually just use concealer for blemishes and my friends find it weird that I don't use concealer under my eyes, haha.

  31. i have the same concealer in the same shade and i agree with your opinion on it. interesting you mentioned Maybelline Fit Me Concealer im going to check that out and perhaps get a shade similar to vanilla :)

  32. This is the first post that has actually made me want to try this out - I am going to swatch it and hopefully they will have it in stock for me as I think it sounds like a great product to cover the acne pigmentation on my cheeks

  33. I might have to check this out. I need concealer for my blemishes as I dont use any under my eyes either. I totally know what you mean by trying to get a shade tad too light. That is really story of my life lol. I actually use the Covergirl 3 in 1 buff beige too.

  34. I am currently using the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer which is pretty decent but I like some extra coverage. I'd love to give this NARS one a try. x

  35. I can see how Maybelline fit me can be compared to NARS creamy concealer, but I second you on nars' coverage and longevity. It really does cover imperfections nicely. Believe it or not, you just enabled me on getting one. I was restraining on following the hype but after this post and a chance of Sephora visit, I couldn't help myself. One in the shade ginger went to the shopping bag :p

  36. I've been wanting to try this for ages but my Estee Lauder Double Wear has lasted me so long that I want to wait til its gone to buy this. Glad to hear you like it, I've heard only good things!

  37. I didnt realise the price was so reasonable either for australian prices! what color are you in mac foundations just for reference? I'm about an NC 25, wondering what shade i'd be in the concealer!
I usually buy my NARS products from kiss and make up from New York, they have a $10 flat rate shipping last time i checked but all their prices for their products are US prices!

    1. I'm not sure what colour I am in MAC as I've never been tested, but I would say in between NC20 and 25 as a guess. Custard is a touch dark for me if I use it on bare skin, but if I use it over NARS Fiji or some other foundation, it usually works out fine. I have heard of that website but I'm a bit wary of buying from them because I'm pretty distrustful of shipping and always anticipate the worst :p
