Over Easter

Easter was a Blue Mountains day trip, my routine hair cut which I get every 12-18 months (chopping off two wigs' worth of hair and scaring the hairdresser), having yum cha twice in two consecutive days, a friend's housewarming where we were served a bona fide feast of ribs, roasted vegetables, stir-fried beans and marinated chicken wings, and buying more stuff (pictured below). That last part was sadly inevitable, and doesn't include the ridiculous number of mini Klorane dry shampoo cans I bought from Chemist Warehouse today. Or a giant faux foxtail, which I can't decide is more feral or delightful.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum I've wanted to try this foundation for a long time given all the positive reviews I've read on it. Target was having a 40% off all Bourjois products sale so I decided to finally buy it. The main issue I have with this foundation is that there isn't a shade which really matches my skin. Vanille (52) is way too light, but Beige clair (53) is a bit too dark. I like the apricot scent and the semi-matte, glowy finish that it gives, but the coverage does seem on the sheer side and I'm not sure it lasts. I'll have to wear it a bit more to give a final verdict, but overall I think it's a really nice foundation. I'd be interested to compare it to Rimmel Wake Me Up which has been marketed similarly.

Essence nail polish in Grand-PliƩ in Black, part of the Ballerina Backstage collection. I've been buying more Essence nail polishes recently and was drawn to this black nail polish with a twist. This shade would be perfect for the colder months. Coppery orange glitter particles spice up a classic black base.

Revlon nail polish in Scandalous (761), renamed from Facets of Fuchsia. I've been patiently waiting for this to be released in Australia as every swatch I've seen has convinced me it's a must-have. I'll feature a post on it when I get down to wearing it, but for now, I'm just glad that it's finally mine.

Revlon nail polish in Popular (230), formally Starry Pink. At first I wasn't going to buy this, content with having found Scandalous, but the milky pale pink and silver hex glitter just looked so irresistibly pretty in the bottle that it had to be mine. It'd probably look better on fairer hands and it takes immense patience to layer on (above is 4 coats), but this nail polish is pure sweetness and innocence. I now need Whimsical to hit our shores ASAP, said to be a dupe of Deborah Lippmann Glitter in the Air and basically the baby blue version of Starry Pink, but with multicoloured glitter.

Bloom Sheer Colour Cream I already have this in Dewy (now discontinued), which is a lovely pale, shimmery pink that works as both a blush and highlight. All the colours in the range are covetable, but I was most enamoured of Coy, a gorgeous peachy pink. It was a toss up between Coy and another cream blush I've had my eye on for a while, Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Soft Copper, which is more an earthy orange. I love the versatility and ease of cream products that can be used all over the face. Already I can tell that this is going to be a staple in my makeup bag.

  2. Oh my gosh I am in love with your nails, they look amazing :)
I wasn't a big fan of Healthy mix, but I am intrigued to try the serum, so looking forward to hearing your opinion :) Fyi I love Rimmel Wake Me Up :)

Glad you had a good weekend :)

    1. I haven't tried the original Healthy Mix so not sure how it compares, though my guess is that it's more coverage. I think my skin generally reacts quite well to new foundations but after a while something weird happens, it starts to get used to it and doesn't respond as well? I wore it today and it seemed to last on me a bit longer than the first time I tried it. My T-zone got a bit oily after a couple of hours but coverage seemed decent for a pretty sheer foundation. I quite like it. Hopefully I get to try Wake Me Up soon, I've heard so many positive reviews on it :)

    1. Haha yeah, it's strange how they rename polishes! Wish they'd stick to the original name and not confuse everyone :)

  4. I recently purchased Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum too because of the generous 40% off sale - so far I like it! I usually use the normal Healthy Mix so I appreciate the sheerer coverage. Look at that pink nail polish, it's gorgeous xx

    1. It is pretty, very princessy as my friend put it :p I like the Bourjois and I'm glad I picked it up, though it's definitely not my first choice if I want more coverage. It's a pretty good everyday foundation, though I'll have to wear it more to see how my skin holds up after using it for a while. I was thinking of getting the compact powder as well (it seemed so velvety and finely milled), but there wasn't my shade. Also the concealer, but they ran out of my shade too :p

  6. i wish i didn't pass up on buying the starry pink because it's soo pretty with it on! i don't currently own any revlon polishes at the moment because the first and last one i ever bought i find to have such a streaky looking finish -_-. but 4 coats? i bet if you have a creme colored base that is similar, you wouldn't need to build up layers and layers of it :D. i really do want like the Glitter in the Air by Deborah Lippman too, but my frugal butt just don't want to spend so much for a nail polish lol! but i've seen swatches of them online, and just like the revlon one, you do have to do multiple coats to really achieve the baby blue color. not to sound redundant, but i've also seen people who have used a baby blue polish as a base color first and then topped it off with the Glitter in the Air polish :)

    1. Revlon polishes can be a little hit and miss. Some of them (Blue Lagoon and Minted come to mind) have horrible formulations, which is a shame since the colours are so pretty. I definitely can't bring myself to fork out for Deborah Lippman either, despite how gorgeous Glitter in the Air is (notwithstanding I'm not even sure it's even sold here!). Great tip with doing a light similarly coloured base, I have no idea why I didn't think of that first. Silly me! Will definitely do that next time :)

  7. Love the polishes! I have to admit - I treat my hair the same way. I only have my hair cut every 12-18 months and freak out whatever hair dresser I'm at (I have a phobia committing to one hair stylist).

    1. Haha, glad to hear I'm not the only one :) I think I have a mild phobia of visiting the hairdresser in general, which is why I only get my hair cut when I feel compelled to, because it's growth too long and thick and generally unmanageable :p

  16. I stumbled across the Bourjois 40% off sale at Target too. It was like going cosmetics shopping in the US!! So cheap! I couldn't help but walk away with more than I needed! I really do love the Bourjois range. I use the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (not the serum) and quite like it. I find it looks much nicer if I build it up. I haven't tried the serum though.

Oh and I was eyeing off that Essence range of nail polishes too. Mostly drawn to the fact that they were a bargain! You'll have to let us know what it's like.

The whole Essence range is super affordable and they have some really nice products. I'm looking forward to wearing the Essence polishes I've bought recently, this black one, and this other blue glittery one that was amazing in the bottle :)

    2. I picked up the Coup De Theatre mascara and a blusher in Rose Ambre. Admittedly I already have a Bourjois masacra on the go but it was only $6! Plus you can never have too many mascaras in waiting!

Would love to see some photos of the polish when you get around to using it :)

  17. Oh my goodness, that Starry Revlon nail polish is amazing. I never thought it would look like that from looking at the bottle.

Everyone is going on about Bourjois Health Mix, I may have to buy some today!

    1. Followed you back :) The way it looked in the bottle definitely drew me in, and it applied pretty much the same, except the base was a tad lighter than expected due to the sheerness of the formula. I have been reading endless reviews and mentions of the Bourjous Healthy Mix Serum foundation so I caved in, finally. But I'm glad I did, it's quite a nice foundation though a bit on the sheer side.

The Revlon starry pink polish is so adorably cute!
Hmm, I think I'm similar to you when it comes to haircuts. I simply do not trust hairdressers...or dentists...
