What's In My Bag

Grabbed this blog post idea from the lovely Michelle of Eat Paint Sniff Glue. I carry a lot of junk. I omitted some more prosaic items like keys, pens, my work security pass and umbrella. There isn't a lot of makeup, with the exception of lip products. I have enough of those to set up a mini shop inside my bag.

The bag is a black Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Groovee that I bought from Shopbop about a year ago. This is pretty much the perfect bag for me. I have considered buying a backup because of how much I love it. I really wanted to get a tan one, but in retrospect the black was a better choice given how prone to dirtiness my bags are. It's been subjected to total abuse, including being poured down on when I was suddenly caught in the rain, and has held up fine. I place dirty newspapers and rubbish in it (once there was a half-eaten cheeseburger), throw it on the ground, stuff it to the brink, pull it apart and rummage recklessly through it. I need my bags to be resilient and so far, it still looks as good as new. I love the design and the pebbled leather which seems to only improve with use.

Pocket Kleenex I can't live without tissues. I am the world's most wasteful tissue user.

Covergirl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers in Papaya Splash I'm not really a lip gloss girl, so this is something that just resides in my bag but rarely gets used.

Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine and Pomegranate I love these. Quince and Mango are on my wishlist.

Klorane dry shampoo Gives hair new life and gets rid of oiliness with a spritz and brush through.

Burberry Brit Sheer mini perfume Not my favourite scent, but seemed ideal to throw in my bag because of the size. A clean-smelling fruity floral, I like the citrus and peach notes and white musk base. To me, very similar to DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom.

Bag hook What a wonderful invention. When I'm sitting at a table, it takes my bag off my lap, chair or the dirty floor and frees up valuable space.

Glasses (case not pictured) I've worn glasses practically all my life. I blame reading by torch light under my pillow and too many hours in front of the TV as a kid.

Small jar with Nivea Soft To smooth out any cakey areas on my face or for whatever reason that I might need a bit of moisturiser. It seemed useful when I put it in but I've barely touched it.

Revlon Beyond Natural Protective Liptint in Pink Rose Before Lip Butters, there were these. Smooth, glossy and pigmented. Smells of sweet berries.

Maybelline Baby Lips in Relieving Menthol Has replaced Blistex Lip Conditioner as my default lip balm. I have a tube in my bag, a tube at home and at least 3 unused backups stowed away.

Cotton On Body round mirror Decently sized but not too big, I like the pink, bow-patterned exterior and how sturdy it feels for something that cost a couple of bucks.

Missha blotting paper To take the oiliness of my T-zone down a notch, though tissues work just as well.

Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in Primrose Probably my favourite pink lipstick, if not my favourite lipstick, period.

iPod Shuffle Very old and falling apart (only one earphone is useable). Mainly for when I get hooked on a particular song or album and feel the need to listen to it on repeat.

iPhone 4 I was an iPhone naysayer and latecomer, but I'm now fully converted. Still can't do Apple computers though.

Jurlique Citrus Purifying Mist I prefer the rosewater one which I have at home. This was a gift which I take around with me because of the smaller size. I use it when my face feels in need of a refreshing misting. Has a strange medicinal/citrus smell which I don't like.

Oroton pouch I think this was originally a small makeup bag, but it now masquerades as a wallet. I appreciate the super soft, supple leather and the unexpected roominess (good for stuffing receipts, tickets, notes, coins, cards, lipsticks, keys and whatever other junk I have).

    Gorgeous pictures as usual :)

    1. Haha I know, I feel so annoyed when I really need a tissue and there isn't one around! :p The bag hook is so useful, especially if you carry a lot around and eat out a bit as well :p

  2. I love everything inside your bag (and your bag, the most!) I'm a tissue fiend, too! I have 2-3 packs ins my bag most of the time, eep. & I have to by myself one of those bag hooks! What a nifty idea! x

  3. This is putting the contents of my bag to shame. It seems to be littered with bobby pins and metcards!

I appreciate you mentioning the half-eaten cheeseburger. I sometimes throw half-eaten bakery food in mine.

    1. Oh trust me, there was a lot of debris and rubbish in my bag that I cheekily left out :p We shalln't go into the details, lol. I'm terrible at what I put in my bag, the half-eaten cheeseburger was after a night of drinking, haha. Bakery food doesn't sound too bad :p

  4. I love the layout of the pictures, gives me an awesome idea to lay out mine but I have no white spaces in my room. I think I'm going to buy white fabric just for the purpose of taking photos HAHAHA! But anywho, love your bag as well. Been eyeing a Marc Jacobs Wallet for a while just don't know what colour to get.

    1. You're not alone, I'm considering buying a piece of white cardboard. I use paper normally as I don't actually have any white spaces in my room :p Oooh, I'd love to see what MJ wallet you end up getting :)

  5. I love how clean and sophisticated this post is!

The only beauty item I carry in my bag is hand moisturiser and a whole lot of lip stuff. I once found 3 lip balms, 1 lipstick and 2 lip glosses in my handbag. I kept throwing lip stuff in but never taking them out! Lol!

    1. Thank you :) I used to carry a hand cream as well, but it started to get a tear in the tube, possibly because of the harsh environment of my bag lol. Glad I'm not alone in carrying too many lip products - I actually omitted 2 more that I usually lug around (and I often put in extra depending on my mood for that day!).

    1. Haha, I hope your bag is lighter for it ;) Not that mine is light in any sense, I omitted quite a bit of junk that wasn't fit for public viewing :p

  7. I own the exact same bag and I use it everyday! Sadly I got pen mark on the inside of it but other than that it's held up great for the year I've almost had it for :) I was lucky to get it for 50% working at Artizia...such a lovely piece!

    1. Wow! That's an awesome discount. I'm just glad our Australian dollar has risen so much in the past 1-2 years (or however long it's been), it's now above parity when for the longest time it was about 1 American dollar to 0.75 Australian dollars. The bag was one of the first major purchases I made when I started working and I'm really glad I bought it :)

  8. I have the exact same bag as yours. Love it to death. However, I find it a bit heavy with all the junk I throw in. I have a bag hook too but sometimes hesitant to use as I know how heavy my bag is and may tilt the whole table over haha! That would be embarrassing!

    1. I'm really surprised how many people have responded saying they have the exact same bag! Haha :) It's nice to know. Mine definitely gets heavy with all the junk I put inside it, so I know exactly what you mean. So far, no table tilt dramas, but I shall let you know if that happens :p I think I may have exerted a bit too much pressure on my bag hook though, it doesn't lock up properly anymore :S

    1. I got it really cheap at the Oroton factory outlet, so I'm quite pleased with it :) The bag hook was actually a gift, so unfortunately I don't know where it was from. But I've seen them around in gift shops and department stores (usually the stationery/homewares area), so maybe try that? Have a fanastic weekend Lena :)

    1. I'm not sure if it fixes your lips, but I just like the feel of them and the mintiness from the menthol one. I guess everyone is different in how they react to a product, I think they're quite inexpensive so maybe try one out and see if it works :) I think they are really quite good!

  16. oh the bag!! I always like marc jacobs bags. I think they're cute and not too mainstream or in your face like lv or gucci, but still not unbelievably expensive.
and you carry stuffs similar like me.lol. we really have to be prepared, right? :p

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, it's always better to be prepared than sorry ;) They are really nice, though I can only afford Marc by Marc Jacobs, lol. Agreed, they're not so "in your face" with the patterned monogram that LV or Gucci have. I favour leather bags without any signs of what the brand is on the outside (except I guess this one has the signature MBMJ tag).

    1. It's held up without much sign of wear and tear, I've been pleasantly surprised :p Oh wow, wish my work would give me a free iPhone haha. They're awesome, I remember when the iPhone 3G came out, it was around the same time Samsung launched the Omnia, and because I didn't want to be a sheep and I was all anti-iPhone back then, I went for Samsung. It was a 2 year expensive contract and it was one of the worst decisions ever! Once I got an iPhone after that, I realised how crappy my old phone was :p The iPhone's touch screen capacity is just so quick and intuitive and the web browsing is so good for a phone. Plus, there's all those fun apps you can play with :)

Heads up: look in the Korres skin care section on StrawberryNet... 3 lip butters for under $20. There are two sets and you might end up doubling up on one though. x

    1. Ahhh thank you for the tip! :D I immediately scooted over there, but no Quince in either set :( Price tag is awfully tempting though. I'm also considering buying Quince and Mango from ASOS, but I think they raised the price a bit. Mainly I want to exercise some restraint because the 2 I have aren't finished and I just bought 23908234 Lip Butters etc etc. Sigh :p

I carry as much as you do haha - I tend to carry the same stuff around, and dump them from my Country Road to an Esprit handbag, and back and forth depending on my outfit/the occasion.
So looking forward to my three Korres lip butters arriving- Jasmine and Pomegranate especially. I. am. so. impatient!
