Gold Shimmer is a creamy, opaque goldish bronze with slight olive tones. It's not so apparent in these photos because they were taken in very warm light, but on my lids, the colour definitely appears green-tinged. Compared to my go-to staple Bad to the Bronze, I find Gold Shimmer a bit too heavy for everyday wear. However, I much prefer Gold Shimmer to Bold Gold, which I find way too yellow, patchy and difficult to apply. Gold Shimmer is much richer, metallic but not frosty (unlike Bad to the Bronze), smoother and more easily blended with the fingers. I actually prefer the consistency and texture of Gold Shimmer over the only MAC Paint Pot I have in Rubenesque.
Despite not being completely sold on it initially, Gold Shimmer ended up exceeding my expectations. It works well for a fuss-free, all-over shadow on its own, with excellent pigmentation and texture. Being a darker shade, it can also be applied under the eyes to define the lower lashes. It's not going to beat Bad to the Bronze, but at least it provides an appealing alternative.
Bold gold looks great :) Goldshimmer looks alot like sidecar from UD.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours! I too hope that we get more colours to choose from in the future! xo
ReplyDeleteGold shimmer looks really pretty but you are right, there's no way that it beats Bad to the bronze :-)

This is a lovely colour, shame its not as good as Bad to the Bronze. These shades have yet to hit the UK either! :( S xx
ReplyDeleteLovely colours! They would be perfect for a smokey eyes look :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty color! The fall 2012 limited edition of Maybelline color tattoo is so hard to find in Canada. I only got the Barely Beige off ebay but would like to swatch other colors as well.
ReplyDeletethese are all amazing!

All of them are so pretty <3

I will no doubt buy this when/if they are released in Australia. I do have Bad to the Bronze, which I adore, and Bold Gold, which is too yellow. Its good that Gold Shimmer is a much better alternative to Bold Gold

Haha we're interested in the same shades LOL If I could purchase the Color Tattoos where I live, I'd go for the same three you mentioned, this one, Barely Beige and Mossy Green ^^ Nothing beats the good old neutral : ) xx
ReplyDeletevery pretty!
ReplyDeleteGold Shimmer looks like a happy medium of those two colors you previously purchased. ;)
Wow, I can tell your Bad to the Bronze really does get a lot of love! I can see the olive-ness of Gold Shimmer. It's very pretty. I bet it would look lovely on tanned skin (imo). I still haven't tried the Maybelline Color Tattoos, but I should soon. Cream shadows are my weakness, haha. :)
ReplyDeleteMy Bad to the Bronze looks just like that! :P I can see what you were talking about with Gold Shimmer being dark- but I adore the metallic finish! I can now see what you meant with BTTB being too frosty. I'm eyeing Barely Beige in particular- I love Amarixe for keeping us up to date with the latest LE collection!
ReplyDeleteThis looks pretty awesome! I don't have a gold cream eyeshadow but now I kinda want one :) I only got barely beige out of the new color tattoos.

Gold shimmer looks like "bad to the bronze" and "bold gold" had a baby! Haha.
ReplyDeleteIt looks really nice though, and I agree, bold gold is too yellow for me to wear.
Gold Shimmer looks like an in between shade of Bad to the Bronze and Bold Gold. I really need to get my hands on some of these but these are not released where I live TT^TT As for Bold Gold, maybe try using it as a base and layer darker shadows over it (I think matte shadows will work well!). Gold is never a colour that looks quite right on my skin tone.

I love golds for autumn. xx
ReplyDeleteLovely shades! I'm not a huge fan of gold color though I would love to try Maybelline eyeshadows
ReplyDeleteI have been dying to try the maybelline color tattoos since I've read and heard so much rave about it, especially bad to the bronze, unfortunately it's not available here in Philippines yet. So, I'll prolly scour online shops for it. awesome review ^_^

I have a major weakness for gold on the eyes. I have Bad to the Bronze and Mossy Green. I find Mossy Green a little hard to work with, maybe because it is a darker color for my light skin and it dries really quick. I have to blend fast to make it work. It is a gorgeous green though. Now I must look for Bold Gold and Gold Shimmer, the swatches are beautiful on your skin. Thanks:)
ReplyDeletenice review, i love the shimmer and colour of them ^^
ReplyDeleteI have been on the lookout for barely beige and mossy green as well with no luck. :/

Gorgeous color. I still haven't tried color tattoo yet, and will need to. I like the sound of "exceeding expectations."

I love the look of Gold Shimmer - Maybelline Color Tattoos are amazing. I seriously cannot get over how amazing your photos are as well! :)
ReplyDeleteFrom your previous post when you first got back, I thought you loved bad to the bronze so much that you had to buy a back up LOL. Gold Shimmer looks like a nice colour but I'll probably pick up Bad to the Bronze first when I get the chance. Apparently they have fall editions too, but I think I missed the opportunity lol. I have bold gold and I find it too yellow for me as well, it didn't work out as I had hoped!
ReplyDeleteHmm, I really want to try Bad to the bronze now! I have the taupe one and bold gold - love both of them!

I really love the finishes of these tattoo pots, none have reached singapores shores yet! But I'm sure they'd be a hit however many they bring it! Great swatches and comparison, these minor variations can make the difference
ReplyDeleteAmazing post!!!! I love it!!

Bold Gold looks so loooovely! I have yet to see these limited edition tattoos here in canada (or at least in the city that i'm in!). I own a few cream shadow pots and would like to own more but I'm noticing some drying out on the sides of a lot of mine, and I haven't own any of them for more than a year! This makes me want to hold off on purchasing more... :(
ReplyDeleteI love your blog by the way! New follower. x

ReplyDeletethanks for sharing the swatches~ I've been loving copper/gold eyeshadow eversince. I think all three shades were quite lovely but my favorite would have to be the gold shimmer ^_~
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. Gold is one of my favorite shades to wear, especially in the fall.
