Constant Colour

You're probably sick of seeing them and they're old news by now, but I thought I might as well do a post on my collection of Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, now that they've recently been released in Australia. Priceline is currently holding a buy one, get one free sale on all Revlon nail and lip products, meaning you can nab two of these for $17.95. They're a little cheaper than the Revlon Lip Butters which are $21.95 each. I've already written about the first one I managed to get my hands on, Charm, so I'll focus on the three others I've since bought, Honey (from my New York trip), Precious and Sweetheart (from the Priceline sale).

l-r (first row, then second row): Precious, stain after Precious is taken off, Honey, Sweetheart

l-r: Honey, Sweetheart, Charm, Precious

Honey (001) This was the shade that I wanted to get the most after Charm, as it seemed the most suited for everyday wear. It's a bit darker than expected, especially since my lips are already quite pigmented. It's a rosy, slightly brown colour, kind of like a dark, muted raspberry, though it applies on my lips more like a light raisin.

Precious (050) I surprisingly really like this one. This is probably what I'd hoped Honey would be closer to. Precious is a pinky nude that is slightly peachy. It tones down my lips without looking too brown or washing me out. Like Charm, it stains brighter and darker than the colour itself, almost to a coral shade. I really don't like this aspect of the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, as it seems to negate the whole point of having lighter shades if they're all going to stain much darker and not true to colour.

Sweetheart (025) Michelle first alerted me to this shade, and ever since, I'd been leaning towards getting it. Sweetheart is a medium, teeth-whitening bright pink with a stain that just goes on and on. Seriously, this one doesn't come off. Ever. I applied this on a whim at night, showered, double cleansed my face, and it was still there. No matter, I thought, surely it'd be gone in the morning. Woke up six hours later, and it was still there, bright as ever on my lips. Once you apply this, be prepared to have it stay on your lips for at least 8 hours. That's surviving futile attempts to wipe it off, multiple reapplication of lip balm, and even trying to remove it with a bit of Bioderma. The unbeatable lasting power means if you want a hot pink lip to last a whole night, and then some, Sweetheart is for you.

I find these lip crayons to be slightly on the drying side, in that you need well moisturised and exfoliated lips for these to go on smoothly. They're a little inconsistent and unpredictable, in that the staying power differs depending on the shade (with Sweetheart being miles ahead of the rest), and the lighter colours stain a totally different colour to how they initially apply. I cannot fault the packaging however, and for the most part, they're a fun and (still) novel way to add truly long lasting, transfer-proof colour to your lips.

  1. Ahhh I wanted to pick up some at the BOGOF at Priceline but I'm broke :(
I have Rendezvous and I love it!

  2. I think Precious and Honey are so pretty, too bad one has to have 'almost perfect' lips to wear them. As far as I've read, it seems that lip products are either moisturizing and not very long lasting or drying and could stay on the lips forever! LOL You'd think they would have perfected the formula by now, no? hehe
Still, really nice colour choices love.

  3. I'm so glad we finally have these in Australia. I bought "Darling Cherie" (the purpley one) on the weekend and I adore it - I need them all! Great review xo

  4. I have sweetheart and rendezvous and I love them! Much brighter than most of your pics. I have had my eye on honey for a while as it's raved as an everyday colour however Precious looks amazing!

  5. I totally agree with you on sweetheart being the clear winner. I also have precious and also charm and they are nice, but not up to the same standard as sweetheart.

  7. I'm very tempted to buy Sweetheart to add to my existing two now! None of the lilac-pinks or vampy red/burgundy shades really appeal to me. Hahaha I'm imagining waking up to rush to a mirror and check the hot pink stainage... Highly entertaining, unless, of course, you've got some important solemn engagements that day, in which case that would be a little unnerving. :S
PS: CONGRATS on hitting pan on the Sleek eyeshadow! I'm about to hit pan on my Essence gel liner which is also a momentous occasion!

    1. I tried to steer clear of the lilac/light purple-pink ones and the darker shades too. I was prepared to put foundation over my lips if desperate :p I guess I don't really like the look of wearing lipstick - I prefer something a bit more subtle, which is ridiculous, since my lips are naturally pigmented enough anyway. I tried wearing a nude lipstick over the stain and it just looked icky :S And thanks for the congrats on hitting pan lol! It was the first time I've done it (at least from what I can remember - or recently), I was very surprised that I managed it! Hitting pan on an eyeliner would be even more of an achievement in my opinion :)

  8. They look like alternatives to Clinique's Chubby Sticks! Sweetheart is such a gorgeous colour but its staying power is quite shocking! Nothing removed it at all? It ended up going away on it's own?

It's a shame that they're drying on the lips though!

    1. It only faded with time ... after 12 hours or however long it was :p It was nearly impossible to get off! But I guess that could be a good thing :)

  9. I think precious and sweetheart are beautiful!!
I have one of this but I am not keen of the formula, and the stinging minty scent.
Surprisingly, I just re-discovered my clinique chubby stick and find it really nice! ( I didnt really like it at first), so maybe one day i'll re discover this one and end up liking it.. who knows? ;P

  10. My sister is just getting into lipcolour so I think I may tempt her with these :D I'm a bona fide lipstick fiend but I doubt my MAC Dubonnet will thrill her :P Great review - I think I'll get her to try these! Though I do want Honey for myself now! x

  11. Wow, buy one get one free?! thats such an amazing offer~ i wish that they had that here! I have a couple of these and i love them so far. I really like the shade 'charm' :) It's really pretty, may need to get it soon to add to my collection! Thanks for sharing your purchases and the swatches~ xxx

  12. I was tempted to get Sweetheart, but I felt I already have too many bright pinks. Instead, I picked up Honey and Romantic from Priceline. I am excited to try them out.

  13. It is kind of annoying that the lighter colours stain a different colour to what it originally is, but I don't mind the stained colour and I didn't buy many light colours either. Sweetheart has some serious lasting power... The first day I wore it, it lasted the WHOLE day out (and I had lunch + waffles...) I find that the majority of the stain comes off when i put makeup remover on it (that's safe for the lips right?) :P

    1. Lol, I suppose? Just don't lick your lips afterwards hehe! Mine still didn't come off even with cleanser and makeup remover. It is a stubborn shade! But I guess that could be considered an advantage, especially for a "stain" product :p

  14. I also purchased Honey when I heard it was a "your lips but better" kind of shade. Precious and Sweetheart look like shades I would pick out next. Absolutely love the texture of these balm stains. X

  18. I got Honey and Precious! Honey because, it's an everyday shade and Precious, cos it swatched so nicely on my hand haha. I gotta exfoliate my lips heaps in order for Precious to look pretty, but honey is a nice shade too :)

  23. wait WHAT?! Revlon lip butters are $22??!?! are you talking in USD? :O i hope not! Revlon products don't cost more than $15 here, and the lip butters are about $7 each!

they look great on your lips though (my fav is honey!) but the fact that it's on the drying side doesn't make me wanna try it so much. they often have sales on drugstore products so i will consider these when they go on sale ;D revlon lip butters are amazing!

    1. $22 Australian dollars - so actually more expensive than 22USD considering the Australian dollar is higher than the US at the moment :p Crazy huh? $36 is the cost of a Revlon foundation here. I love the Revlon Lip Butters, I prefer them to these stains :)

  25. Fantastic review! I've been curious to try these - but have been hesitant b/c they haven't gotten great reviews. I can't believe they charge $21.95/AUD for a Revlon lip butter. That's highway robbery!

  39. I really like the stain Precious leaves on your lips! I think the dodgyness of the staying power is probably due to the pigment? Perhaps lighter colors don't last as long as dark ones. I need to get me Crush and Romantic already. The dark side is calling me, hahaha! I feel that applying lip crayons will always amuse me to no end. It's just so fun "coloring in" my lips. WHOA I never noticed you had a beauty mark under your lips before, I do too! Except mine is darker I think. :D

    1. It's pretty much identical to the stain that Charm leaves as well :p Yes, must be something to do with how lighter colours are manufactured. The darker ones won't stain a different colour since the stain itself is dark, which matches the original shade. I know what you mean, the novelty of having essentially a jumbo lip liner that you use to literally colour in your lips is still pretty fun :) And yay for being beauty mark twinsies. I didn't even notice mine that much until I started taking lip swatches lol!

  42. Wow Revlon seems super expensive in Austrailia! :o I have the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Lovesick and it lasts SOOOOOOOOOOOOO long I had it on for a whole day and into the next day and it was still super pigmented. Yup. If you like bright colors, you might like that shade- it makes my teeth appear so white, its a darker but still bright bright bright pink.

    1. I was considering Lovesick or Sweetheart, I went for the shade that seemed slightly lighter. But in the Revlon promo with Emma Stone, she's wearing Lovesick and it looks really gorgeous with her pale skin. I know what you mean by being whitening, Sweetheart definitely does that as well!

  50. I finally got my first one today in the shade 'lovesick' its a darker hot pink. So far I love the staining color, i put quite a bit on and they seemed to leave an even stain for me. I was worried precious maybe too nude and dead on my lips but now that i think, I think it wouldn't since my natural lips are so pink. Will be going back for more! Thanks for swatching, these are lovely!

  57. Precious and Honey catch my attention! When I first tried these balm stains (I was the one to set up the Revlon Lip balm stains at work in a pharmacy so I was the first to use the new testers *squeal*) I thought they would be sheer and moisturising. How wrong I was! It accentuated the dry flakes on my lips and stained like crazy and wouldn't come off vigorous rubbing which you have tried too! Definitely long lasting with a formula I didn't expect! The packaging for these are so adorable though :)

  58. I cannot get Sweetheart off! It's ridiculous! I still have swatches on my hand from three days ago. It's craziness!

  59. I made the most of the Priceline sale too, I was disappointed with Precious but I found Smitten produced this beautiful bright colour that lasted all day so might be worth a try. Although I love your swatches of Sweetheart and might try that next. Thanks!
