Paint It Glitter

Spotted at Terry White Chemist — new Ulta3 glitter polishes. For a comprehensive review of all the polishes in the collection, please head over to the More Nail Polish blog. I managed to limit myself to three, though at $2 a pop, I could've easily taken home all six. The only one that I wasn't particularly keen on was Pot of Gold, as it looked much too yellow. These polishes consist of differently sized hex glitter in a clear base. They're fairly densely packed to give that chunky, three dimensional glitter effect. I ended up with New Years Eve (blue glitter), Twinkle Toes (silver glitter) and Over the Rainbow (red, pink, blue and gold glitter).

l-r: Twinkle Toes, New Years Eve, Over the Rainbow

Some negatives. These polishes smell overpoweringly foul. I suggest painting your nails outside as a legitimate health safeguard. Not that nail polishes are known for smelling pleasant, but these are putrid on a whole new level. They emit a strong chemical smell, like industrial glue. They also take an age to dry. I did four coats here plus a top coat, though I could've stopped at two. It's been over an hour, and they're still in a fragile state.

But at the end of the day, these are $2 nail polishes, and they're pretty fantastic for the price. Twinkle Toes looks like a good substitute for Essie Set in Stones. New Years Eve fills the blue glitter hole in my collection, from the absence of glitters like OPI Absolutely Alice or Last Friday Night. And Over the Rainbow ... no justification required. There's plenty of scope to get creative with what base polishes to pair these glitters with, should they be used as a top coat. Just don't forget to hold your breath when you're using them.

  3. So pretty but I have no patience for waiting or them to dry :') <3

  4. I really like the look of Over the Rainbow; however, I'm not sure I would have the patience to let it dry... I always forget about them and mess them up.

  5. Aww!! So beautiful! I've seen these around! Must get next time I drop by a chemist which stocks Ulta3!! x

  6. About time Ulta3 jumped on the glitter polish bandwagon! They look SO pretty, but I don't think I'm too keen as the regular smell of nail polish is enough to make me recoil sometimes. I own a silver glitter from Ulta3 but it was just regular tiny glitter particles and the glitter-clear base ratio was a bit disappointing. Glad to see they're upping their game!

  7. I can't stand polishes that take so long to dry because I always touch something and mess them up. Over the rainbow is gorgeous!

  10. I picked up a few of these as well, shamefully hehe! I got Twinkle Toes and New Years Eve as well, but also the green glittered one! I did notice they take forever to dry, but no matter.. they're only $2 so I'm happy ;)

  13. I love the look of these, especially Over the Rainbow :)
I know what you mean when talking about the unpleasant scent... I bought a few glitter polishes a few days ago and holy crap they had the most unpleasant scent ever.. I thought I was going to faint... well not maybe, but it was VERY unpleasant :) Very pretty polishes anyway :)

  14. Even though I've just bought a stack of Jordana glitters, I think I am going to buy all of these shades! I wear glitters all the time, love that bright blue.

  17. purrty!
i learned a new word today - hex glitters! :D
maybe they do contain to glue to hold bigger glitters together..?
i secretly enjoy(!) the polish smell but too much is too much. ;)

btw, you seem to rock many glitter polishes. do you have any tips to remove them easily? i'd wear glitters more often if not the pain of removing them.

    1. Well, hex is just short for hexagonal :p I have no idea why I can't be bothered to spell out the whole word lol.

I don't have any special methods for glitter polish removal. Either I've done so many coats that I can peel it off from my nail, or I have to do the boring thing and soak my nails in remover and then scrub, scrub, scrub! Either way, it's very damaging to the nails - but that's the price you pay for the shiny goodness :p

  21. These polishes are such gorgeous colours, but the long drying time would definitely deter me from trying them out! Still, for the price, really can't complain I suppose xx

  22. I think it's generally the prettiest glitters that smell the worst!

  23. Love the glitter!! The price makes up for the foul smell haha New Year's Eve looks really similar to Revlon's Radiant but without the silver glitters. This reminds me I still haven't put that on my nails even once yet....sigh. Over the Rainbow reminds me of Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday except smaller glitter sizes, so cute!:P

  25. The colorful glitter looks beautiful, so funky! The blue one reminds me of Revlon's glitter polish (it looks the same but I forgot the name)

  26. That's such a good price! the "Over the Rainbow" looks like dead ringer for my "Rainbow in the S-kylie" from the Kardashian O.P.I collection which cost a pretty penny...

  31. Over the rainbow is too pretty! Me want!!! I love glitter nail polish so much, a girl can never have enough LOL Too bad they smell so bad. One would think that with technology these days they would have figured out a way to make nail varnish smell like caramelled apples, no? ^^ I should have paid more attention in chemistry class... I'd make a fortune making nail laquer that smells nice hahaha *daytime dreaming

  34. Can't ever go wrong with $2 polishes!
How many coats did you do with these? If it's less than 3 then I'm going to be running out to get some!

    1. Hahaha, I did 4! But that's only because I'm a crazy person that likes to go overboard. I assure you it looked fine at 2 and there was barely any difference between the third and fourth coat :) So go run now! (Though honestly, the scent is really really bad and would deter me more than anything.)
