Soft Sculpture

Illamasqua Zygomatic was totally an unplanned purchase. I had already bought Naked Rose on holiday in the US less than a month earlier, and thought that effectively eliminated Zygomatic from my mental wishlist (it was a choice between the two of them, and I'd made mine). But what happens when Illamasqua decide to lower their Australian prices, making a blush almost the same price as in the US? You know what happens. An innocent trip to the Illamasqua counter in Myer, to merely check out what's on offer, with no intention to buy, of course. Until I decide to try some Zygomatic on my cheeks, and the rest is history.

In the pan, Zygomatic looks like a medium rosy brown, kind of like a dusty pink but more brown-leaning. I've been getting more into neutral blushes rather than the usual pinks and peaches I gravitate towards, and Zygomatic is exactly what I'm after. Though it swatches quite brown, it actually appears more pink on my cheeks. The effect is quite subtle and natural looking. It's not a bright or warmed up pink, it's more of a toned down, neutral pink that melds with the colour of your own skin. If built up, it can start to look more brown than pink, so I prefer to apply it lightly. I usually apply this with my fingers, mainly on the apples of my cheeks and then blending outwards and upwards, but I've tried it with the Ecotools baby kabuki brush and it worked well, though it dispersed more product over a wider area. This is a cream blush, so it's a little messier than a powder, but it texture is non-sticky and it's easy to blend.

I think this is the perfect blush to add really natural, subtle colour to your face. I often find blushes are too dark, too red, too shimmery, too bright, too difficult to apply — but Zygomatic is none of those things. This sophisticated pinky nude is soft, understated and easy going.

  5. I've never considered Illamasqua's cream blushers, but this is such a curious little thing! It looks so scary and theatre-makeup-esque in the pan- I would never think it works as a neutral pinkish blush! I was so happy when Illamasqua lowered their prices- hehe yay blushers! I've been looking into neutral blushes too! Been looking at swatches of Tarte Exposed and it looks gorgeous but it's such a pity it's not sold in Australia. :(

  7. Wow, after such an amazing product description I can't help but add it to my endless wishlist. I probably will never be able to purchase it but still ^^
It looks lovely on you. I'm on the other end of the spectrum, experimenting with my new Sleek Blush x3 in Lace where all shades are coral-oriented. I still don't know how I feel about it but it's nice to have stepped out of my comfort pink zone and dove into peach and coral colours : ) xx

    1. They are $28! I believe before the price drop, they used to be $42 or something (wayyy too expensive). Illamasqua blushes are so pigmented, probably the most pigmented of the blushes I've tried.

  24. it's so subtle but still gorgeous, i love the way it blends perfectly on the face :) I've never thought of trying this brand though, I'm such a brand snob, haha. maybe i should broaden my horizon and try other beauty lines apart from the ones i'm used to =D

    1. Lol, most of the stuff was what I bought in the US, which has created a huge backlog of items to review. But I've been naughty as well post-New York :p Yeah, all in all, I'm hopeless!

  29. I did a similar thing and chose one cheek product from that collection, and Naked Rose was it. Sadly Zyg didn't work for me, but it was probably for the best anyway. I love my Illamasqua blushes, Sophie is a great one and so is Naked Rose-looking forward to seeing what they come out with next!

  40. I have heard about Illamasqua's campaign for a fairer price for cosmetics. I think it's such an admirable thing for a brand to do. Zygomatic looks brownish in the pan but I love how it has a pinkish tinge when it is blended out on the cheeks! It has a very soft and pretty look.

I did get all the Revlon balm stains. I got them off ebay when they first came out but I have't gotten reviewed them on my blog yet.
