Nightlife Sparkle

I wasn't sure if I was tiring of glitter polishes when OPI Polka.com came out from their Spring 2013 Euro Centrale Collection. After buying all the polishes from the limited edition Face of Australia Glitterati Collection, I felt a bit over glitter (shock, horror). There was something cheap, tacky and increasingly unimaginative about them — not to mention being a total nightmare to remove. David Jones recently had a buy one, get one free offer on OPI nail lacquers. The last time they held the same promotion, my friend and I selected a polish each for half the normal price and I picked the nude OPI Loves David Jones. This time around (possibly inspired by Mishelle's picks), I felt a strong pull back towards my glitter roots.

Polka.com consists of turquoise, hot pink and royal purple hexagonal glitter of uniform size with royal purple glitter dots in a clear base. Here, I chose to pair it with a dark navy base (two coats of Rimmel 60 Seconds nail polish in Aye, Aye, Sailor). I wanted a more indigo, slightly brighter (but still deep) blue, but the inky Aye, Aye, Sailor was the next closest thing.

I'm often immediately drawn to how a glitter polish looks like in the bottle and want to replicate the same effect on my nails. For that reason, I often prefer to wear glitter polishes on their own, even if the process calls upon a great deal of patience in painting multiple coats to achieve the density of glitter required. Polka.com however, seems more suited to being a glitter top coat. Its unique mix of coloured glitter can subtly transform the look of an entire manicure depending on what colour is selected as the base. I feel darker colours really complement and harmonise with Polka.com, giving the illusion of depth, compared with lighter, more pastel colours where the glitter appears disjointed, busy and very flat on the nail.

I've always been impressed with the superior quality of OPI glitter polishes (Teenage Dream, The Living Daylights and Lights of Emerald City are some of my favourites) and Polka.com is no exception. It may be a random observation, but the polish paired with Aye, Aye, Sailor brought to mind the bokeh-inspired packaging of the Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious mascara (minus the green). It's a glitter concoction that recalls the energy of modern nightlife and the multicoloured lights of the city after dark.

  5. Ohhhhhhhhh my goodness this looks gorgeous!!! So fun and surprisingly sophisticated; that's a pretty hard combo to pull off, especially with glitter polish haha :) Not to mention I adore the name… I'm such a sucker for a good nail polish name! I'd probably buy this for the thrill of having something called "polka.com" even if the polish were crap but thankfully that wasn't the case :p

  6. Nail palish makes nail beautiful. It can make you looking great but parazapper can helps to purify water. As a listener perspective i shared a post here.
Zapper can help for preventing Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis is a disease, and is popular by the name TB. The main cause of the disease is the mycobacterium.

When a person affected by the disease , it normally first affects the lungs. The main symptom of the disease is bloody cough, physical weakness, sweats in night time, chronic fever, weight decrease day by day.
Usually this disease spread through the air , when Tuberculosis affected person through cough in open place that moment the TB germs can rapidly spread to the another person. This disease can also be transmitted through the air by a sneeze.
TB first affects the lungs, later, when it reaches the chronic stage , it can affect the central nervous system. Some potential treatment can prevent the disease.
BCG vaccine is common vaccine for preventing tuberculosis. But the vaccine can protect only children which age is under 16 years.
Always eat nutritious food and wear a mask whenever exposure is possible. For keeping our physical condition fresh water is very important. While this zapping can show physical evidence for water purification, it may also have benefit for killing microbes in the human body. Additional studies are needed. ParaZapper can eliminate bacteria from water with 1 hours usage.

    1. I love that about nail polish - something that someone wears on their nails can immediately catch your attention and you can go and buy the exact same polishes and then wear them on your own nails :) I have a friend who is quite into nail polish and she always makes me go out and buy more OPI :p (This shade included!)

    1. Normally if I have applied too many coats, after several days the nail polish begins to naturally separate from the nail and I can peel it off (I use a base coat, not sure if that assists in the process). Otherwise I don't know any special tricks other than lots of nail polish remover and patience!

  11. oh wow this is sooooo pretty! it reminds me of the night sky..
I wish I got the patience to remove glitter nail polishes as they're nightmare to remove.. T-T
I have very dry and damage cuticles so removing glitter nail polish will only make them worse.. All these brands should start a research on how to make glitter nail polishes that are so easy to remove, they will make millions out of it! lol

  12. I think I have an OPI problem... I wore this over Revlon Royal to a similar effect. I think it's more suited to being layered over darker colours, I want to try it over purple next. The only FOA polish that I really enjoyed from that collection was heart of glass.

    1. Lol I was so crazy for those stupid polishes, mainly because they were like 90 cents when Kmart had some blanket $3 off FOA. I had to get them all. I scouted everyone I knew and their brother to try to look in their local Kmart for them ... ugh. I agree with you, the only one I really loved was Heart of Glass and I actually bought it full price from Priceline (2x over) regardless.

  14. Sooo pretty, fun and also chic! It reminds me a lot of one from a recent collection "Euro" something? I can't recall but I picked it up at a booth because the purple and red glitter bits the same size as these! I love how you put it on top of the navy, it's a great combination!

  17. Spring 2013? how did I miss it? I love blue polishes, although not a big fan of glitter… but this is super special.. I want!!!

  18. Beautiful! I don't think I would get this since this is similar to my Deborah Lippmann polish (Let's go crazy), and I usually stay away from glitters only because of the difficulty of removal, which brings me to ask you this. What kind of base coat do you use for glitter polish? ;)

    1. Anything, really! I don't have one I stick to. For this one I used Sally Hansen Diamond Shine Base & Top Coat which I'm pretty sure was a freebie :p I wish I could welcome a Deborah Lippmann polish to my collection but they are impossible to obtain where I live and also I wasn't willing to shell out for one while in New York last September :p

Take care, have a nice day!*

  21. Your pictures are lovely :) I'm sure I asked before but what camera do you use?
I really like glitter polish but I sometimes wonder if I should use it as I dread having to take it off however when the polish is this pretty I tend to overlook that minor detail.

  33. Oh my goodness, this is absolutely gorgeous! I had a little phase where I tried to avoid glitter nail polish too- I convinced myself it was too childish and difficult to remove. However their prettiness always lures me in... the navy base you chose to pair Polka.com with is perfect :) I definitely agree with you on the quality of OPI nail polishes, they are beautiful!
