It's September so long-time readers of my blog may have seen this coming ... I'm about to say goodbye to Sydney for two weeks and fly out for my annual overseas holiday. This is the year I'm finally going to Japan. For better or worse, when I think of Japan, I think of Lost in Translation and the image of Scarlett Johansson gazing pensively over Tokyo from her hotel room window. Everyone I've met that's been to Japan has had nothing but wonderful things to say about it, especially about the people and the food, so I'm anticipating my experience will be no different. While I'm a little bit wary about the general lack of navigational skills my friend and I share, it's all part of the adventure, right?
As always, here's a peek into my makeup bag that I'm bringing with me on the trip. I decided to do away with brushes altogether (for face, eyes and hair, though I do have that eyebrow grooming tool to brush my eyebrow hairs into shape) and stick with cream products that I can apply with my fingers. There's my ever trusty Essence Pas des Copper Eye Soufflé, along with the addition of Rimmel ScandalEyes Shadow Stick in Bad Girl Bronze. Which base to pack was the hardest part, but in the end I settled on Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector (Combination to Oily Skin) for its lightweight texture, oil control properties and illuminating finish. It's apparently still fairly humid in Japan in the beginning of September, so I needed something that wasn't too heavy or foundation-like, but that wouldn't melt off my face in hot, muggy weather. If I need some extra skin perfecting, I have my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to fall back on. A natural pink cream blush and two lipsticks (one for the everyday in Revlon Juicy Papaya, one for a statement lip in Maybelline Vivid Rose) round up my colour options.
See you when I return!
I was waiting for this post! Have a good trip! Enjoy some green tea Kit Kat (they even have wasabi Kit Kat!) and awesome ramen and sushi. I've never been to Japan but I definitely plan to. :) Safe travels!

I am sure you will love Japan. It is fairly easy to navigate around (must have Google Maps) and their train and subway systems are amazing! The only issue is the language barrier haha. Definitely stock up on green tea Kit Kats and green tea Pocky. My only regret was not buying more of them XD.
ReplyDeleteHello from Japan! I hope you like it here! Looking forward to hearing how you feel about it when you get back.
ReplyDeleteAnd be sure to swing by the cosmetic counters; some brands have Japan-only releases!
Love your compact make up bag! I left on my current holiday trip with someone too much make up which I'm not surprised by! I have to advise you that not many people on the streets in even in the big cities in japan speak or understand english so have a translating app with you on your phone! People are incredibly friendly though and do eat a sweet or savory crepe from their dessert cafes! Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteYou'll love Japan! The way things are done and the people are totally different...and it all works! You'll love the Japanese pharmacist beauty shopping there. I absolutely loved it!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I love your makeup bag, and you just reminded me that it has been way too long since I've worn Juicy Papaya!

Have fun in Japan! I really enjoyed Japan when I went about 10 years ago and I have always wanted to go back. I'm sure you will feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteSimple yet lovely makeup! You have just the right amount here. Who needs a makeup bag packed full of makeup when travelling anyway, right? xx

ReplyDeleteWow! How exciting that you're going to Japan, I would so love to go, I think anyone who loves Lost in Translation would love to visit Tokyo. I'm very impressed with the make up bag, I don't know if I could narrow down my travel makeup bag like that! Some great choices with the easy to wear and use creamy products, it will make getting ready for the day super easy and gives you more tourist time! Have an amazing time, no doubt you will be returning with some beauty products from Japan!
