Deborah Lippmann Dupes

Found this amazing Essence polish in Blue Addicted recently. Apparently, it's a fairly close dupe for Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe. You can imagine my delight in finding it given that the Deborah Lippmann is $26.50 and this Essence was an absolute steal at under $3 (though the Deborah Lippmann is 3 times the size). The polish itself didn't disappoint. It's generously loaded with glitter and becomes opaque in about 2-3 coats. Blue Addicted is a dark, ocean blue jelly with blue glitter and light blue and green hex glitter particles. The composition gives the effect of depth with multiple coats, as glitter pieces are suspended between layers of the polish.

Revlon Scandalous (or Facets of Fuchsia) is said to be a dupe for Deborah Lippmann Bad Romance. Reading some blog posts that have compared the two, they look more or less identical to me. The Revlon might even have more glitter in it. It's a purplish-black jelly (the base is very similar to Revlon Plum Night) with fuchsia glitter and fuchsia hex glitter. My bottle also contains the very occasional, random silver hex glitter, which I'm not sure is an anomaly or consistent feature. Both Blue Addicted and Facets of Fuchsia dry quite smoothly for such dense glitter polishes. The only minor issue I have is that multiple coats of each can get a little lumpy and uneven, especially if you're like me and lack the patience to wait until each coat is completely dry. They're also an absolute pain to remove. Both would probably benefit from a clear top coat to really bring them to life, but being lazy I skipped that step.

  1. The green glitter in the Essence polish really gives the color depth!

  4. OMIGOSHH!!! My friend bought Deborah Lippman's Across the Univerise polish a while back and showed it to me after she put it on and I swear this is EXACTLY the same! I can't say for sure about the Revlon's Scandalous polish as I've never really taken a close look at the Bad Romance one because I was trying to decide which DL polish I would splurge on - and I decided to eventually get the Across from Universe one :P Thanks for the post! Hopefully I'll be able to find Essence in my drugstore and hopefully...they'll have this instock as well hahaha

  10. I was swooning over the essence shade, then realised I already own it! I've only ever used it as a topcoat though, silly on my part. Thanks for making me realise it is nicer with 3 coats :D xx

  13. The blue one is divine. I'm trying to recall where I've seen Essense nail polishes before. I can't think of stockists off the top of my head. Where did you manage to find yours?

Very informative post as always. Thanks a bunch.

  17. Glitter nail polishes are a pain to remove!! Seriously I'm trying to steer away from them now! =P I would totally go for the essence nail polishes! We don't really need a huge bottle of nail polish cause I don't think many of us actually can finish a bottle of polish! I've never. XD

  18. Both polishes are so gorgeous! I haven't bought any polish in a while since we're not encouraged to wear it during clinical sessions, but I think I have to make an exception and buy one of these! xx

  21. great post!
i am not a fan of DL polishes in general, but there are some gorgeous glitters she brought out.
i am happy to find out there are good dupes available! :)

  22. Wow that essence nail polish is gorgeous.. I own one of their polishes and was pretty impressed with it based on how much I paid for it. I like smaller polish bottles because I never make it through a big bottle... it ends up turning weird and I have to throw it out. Great comparison post though:)

  27. I adore these colours, I've being looking for some nice gliter nailvarnishes for a while now as most are very fine, which are pretty but not as bold as I would like.

I'll have to see if the UK has this Revlon shade in, i'll be stopping off in Boots on Saturday to have a look ! :D

    Great post :)

They look sooo good!!! I hope you get good wear of them! I think I could put up with the unevenness and difficult removal, I mean, they are just gorgeous! :)

  35. I have finally managed to get hold of Facets of Fuchsia! I found it in Superdrug today randomly on a shelf, there wasn't even a designated spot, needless to say, I snapped it up straight away!

I've been after it since I saw it on your blog :D
