Trap-eze Track Down

When I first laid eyes on the China Glaze Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away Collection, I zeroed in on It's a Trap-eze! and declared that it needed to be mine. For the first couple of weeks, I searched eagerly for it online, only to find it out of stock everywhere. Then Australis released their Milky Way polish which I hoped would be a good enough dupe to temporarily satiate my craving. As fun as it was to play around with, it didn't quite match up to the real deal. Over time, my interest waned and I'd more or less given up on finding It's a Trap-eze! until Sammi mentioned she discovered BeautyJoint had it back in stock. That night, I contemplated long and hard whether I was going to pay $9.45 shipping on a $3.99 polish. You bet I was.

Despite finally having in my hands something I'd wanted for so long, I couldn't help but be irked by the fact the bottle I received had definitely been used. There was that telltale ring of dried up polish around the opening of the bottle. Additionally, when I peered into the bottle itself, it looked about two-thirds full. The level of the polish was suspiciously low for what was supposed to be a brand new product.

Initially, I was actually a little disappointed with It's a Trap-eze!, and not just because I hadn't received it in pristine condition. I'd reached my glitter tolerance. I felt underwhelmed at how superfluous acquiring another glitter polish seemed, especially one that I'd previously been so enthusiastic about. Now that I had it, it didn't seem half as appealing as when it was just a distant object to covet and admire.

But I tried it on, and soon enough I found myself warming to it considerably. There is something special about It's a Trap-eze! that makes it unlike any other glitter I've come across. Firstly, the density of glitter is ridiculous. Not just the density, but the variety. I see very small to small hexagonal glitter in a multitude of colours: red, orange, yellow, cyan, green, magenta, and silver/white in a sheer, slightly blue-tinged white base. The semi-transparent base is what this polish so versatile, as it's not so opaque that it covers up or overwhelms the glitter. Rather, it lets the glitter shine through, even with multiple layers. You can apply this over a bright polish to make the base colour pastel. The glitter is relatively small-sized, so from a distance, the overall effect on your nails is more like a crazily speckled egg than a super-reflective, multifaceted disco ball.

  1. I've been wanting this polish ever since the release, and after looking at your photos I want it even more! This is such a stunning polish and the density of the glitters amazes me :) x

  4. Love how theres so much glitter packed on your nails! I love it! It's such a shame about the polish being used, demand a refund! (Put a paypal dispute (that's if you paid by paypal) - always works for me.)

Also, I bought the Australis version of it and after a while I got over it so quickly after eyeing it for so long. I guess it's one of those things where you've finally got it and kinda over it after the long anticipation.

Overall, great post! :) It's been a long time since I stumbled upon here!

  6. I love how playful this polish is, just look at all that glitter jam packed in there! The slightly sheer base colour is pretty too, and it looks so fun to wear. What a disappointment that there was a dried ring of polish around the opening and that it looked only 2/3 full... I don't think I would want to purchase anything from Beauty Joint hearing that something like that happened. Did you make a complaint about it?

    1. I didn't, but I should have. I'm just the worst at that stuff, I'm so nonconfrontational and such a pushover. And pretty much just lazy :p I guess because it was so cheap (except the shipping) and I doubt I'd ever finish the bottle, I'm not overly fussed. But it does taint my impression of Beauty Joint a bit.

  15. It's not exactly the same but it kind of reminds me of Happy Birthday by Deborah Lippmann!

  16. Oh my gosh I can't believe how utterly used this polish was, especially when it was advertised as new and you spent so much on shipping :( As a fellow polish lover that is utterly upsetting.
Either way this really is a cute polish; the amount of glitter is intense!! I love the milky contrast of the base though :)

But this color is more pretty many glitter.
    Lovely color.

  18. The polish is SO fun! From pictures of the bottle it didn't look all that interesting or unique - but on your nails it looks so fresh and appropriate for Spring (although..it's not Spring in Australia is it..hmm...). Sorry to hear that the bottle seemed used. That would completely irk me as well!

  19. I would be so annoyed if it seemed used too! Glad it hasn't stopped you liking it though!
    Your nails always look awesome!!!

  24. This is so pretty! It looks like an iced donut with sprinkles! I can see why you wanted it for so long. that's not so great about it clearly having been used before, but I'm glad you loved it in the end!

  25. That would piss me right off. :////////// UGH.

Annoying shit aside, this is so pretty! I totally agree on the density of the glitter. SO MUCH GLITTER TO LOOK AT! haha <3

  27. I was just thinking about a BeautyJoint order! Did you get anything else? It sucks that you got a used bottle- maybe it's one of those that somebody returned (as they do in the US with those messed-up return policies) and they got them mixed up? The glitter is insane on this- no wonder it caught your eye! It's way too much for me but it's definitely special.
PS: invested in Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque- highly recommend! (more for bad skin weeks than anything else) Bought Origins Drink Up intensive too but less excited about that one.

    1. Nope, didn't order anything else. Just one polish LOL. I did contemplate buying some other stuff, but ultimately it just seemed like a waste of money. I'm trying to only buy things I want ahead of time, and really want. Or just not buy at all.

I've been looking at Aesop but the prices are just so ... bleurgh. Origins as well. Why is skin care so expensive?! I haven't heard that many good things about Origins stuff except the Vitazing moisturiser, and even then, I don't know if I'd want something tinted. I was contemplating getting that Parsley Seed serum (the $69ish one) but I read reviews on MUA that it people felt a weird film on their skin which put me right off. Guess I'll stick with my Antipodes Divine Oil. I have been trialing Caudalie Divine Oil though which I really like!

    2. I thought you might get the Wet n Wild Bare It All lipstick after reading your March Favourites post! I'm contemplating the Kiehl's MRC next. :)

  30. I love the glitters in this polish! It's definitely a unique one out of the bunch. I like how it has an opaque base too - so pretty! Maybe you can try contacting the store about the used polish, I think that's one of my biggest pet peeves for nail polishes. Sometimes I wouldn't mind too much if it's just on the rims but if it's clearly used and down to 2/3rd's with such a pricey shipping cost then that's a big turn off. :T

  31. Aw, it looks so pretty on the nails with all those colourful flecks of glitter ^^ Too bad about the bottle not being new, how can that happen! I haven't purchased a nail polish in months and I must say I feel ok, for a beauty lover (hoarder!) such as myself it's quite the accomplishment. I've been loving just sticking to what I own (at least in that department) and redescovering things. I wish I could say the same about makeup and skincare but... baby steps, baby steps! xx

  33. Did you complain to customer services about the seemingly used polish? Seriously they should not take advantage of their customers like that!

I agree with you. Somehow there's something about the glitter and colours that makes this bottle really magical.

    1. I didn't, though I probably should have. I guess this post is my public complaint which may or may not be ever read by Beauty Joint (probably more the latter). But that's my venting done!

  34. Ooh so gorgeous, like a disco on your nails!! I can't believe they would sell you a 2nd hand bottle, that is so wrong -.- unless somehow it leaked although there would be other tell tale signs. Anyway, I can see why you have wanted this for so long! xx

  35. That is a really beautiful polish, I've had a look on BeautyJoint as well and I guess that because the polishes are so cheap, the shipping might be worth it if you get a few shades. Does the shipping price increase per bottle?
I love the pastel and glitter trend, so pretty and wearable.

    1. Yeah, shipping is weight-based so increases with every extra thing you order. But not by much, it's definitely more worth it if you buy a few polishes in one order.

  36. I can never resist a pretty glitter nail polish, this one looks amazing! Sometimes I look at a glitter polish in the bottle and think it's not too special, but then when it's on the nails, it's like BAM! x
