Dipping into Lush

I've never been big on Lush. When I was younger, I never understood the appeal. Each time I found myself near one of their shops, I had to hold my breath. I could smell a Lush store from a mile away, and it wasn't a pleasant experience. The only time I've tried their products was a few years ago, when they were giving out a sample pack with a purchase of $10 or more. I thought it was a good opportunity to at least see what the fuss was about, and I remember being pleasantly surprised by what I tried. I especially liked the nutty, bumpy Noubar, the good-enough-to-eat Strawberry Feels Forever Massage Bar, and this refreshingly light body lotion that smelt just like young coconut juice (to this day I have no idea what the name of it was). But despite enjoying the samples, I never repurchased anything after I'd finished them.

Lately though, Lush has been on my mind. It might be the constant exposure on the beauty blogs I frequent, or the fact that body stuff is naturally next in line now that my makeup quota is exhausted, or the 50% off sale on Christmas stock, but I found myself more than eager to get my hands on some of their products. After deliberating on which Christmas gift set I should buy (and being seriously tempted by an enormous box that was a whopping $180 originally), I settled on the Festive Fiesta tin. The shower-centric products suit me more as I rarely take baths, and definitely won't be taking them any time soon now that it's the Australian summer.

Northern Lights Soap Lather up with this startlingly refreshing, fresh pine, cypress and lime soap.
This one smells a bit like liquid detergent or laundry powder, and I'm sure it'll leave you just as squeaky clean.

Snow Globe Soap Get zest for success! Refreshing, summery lemon myrtle and grapefruit soap for dark winter days.
The blurb was clearly written with the Northern Hemisphere consumer in mind, since it's far from dark and wintry here! Like the Northern Lights soap, it has a zesty vibe. I prefer this one though, as the lemon scent is more pronounced and subtly sweet.

Sandy Santa Sugar Scrub Buff your bum for Santa this Christmas! Exfoliating body scrub with Brazilian orange oil.
Resembles a cookie and crumbles like one too. Seems ultra messy but fun. I'll probably try to put this in a container and break it apart first so I won't have to use it all up in one go.

Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly Sparkling blackcurrant, cherry and coconut Shower Jelly that sweetly washes your hair and body.
How weird does it look? I love the smell though, mainly because I'm big on anything blackcurrant. It has little bits of purplish blue glitter suspended in it as well, making it extra pretty. This whole shower jelly is a new concept to me, but apparently you can "chill it, freeze it or use it straight from the pot". I guess a blob of semi-frozen jelly applied to the body could be appealing for when it's especially boiling. I'm all about the novelty.

Whoosh Shower Jelly Grapefruit, rosemary and geranium essential oil shower jelly: perfect for jetlag and everything else that gets in your way.
This one is supposed to reinvigorate and make you refocus if you're feeling distracted or sluggish. (If that's the case, I should've had a major supply when I was studying for exams, and a major water bill too.) I smell the lemon, lime and grapefruit ingredients strongly. I like that it's not too sweetened so the citrus kick really comes through.

Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub Sea salt shower scrub with tropically scented blossoms. Scrubby, cleansing, fresh and even doubles up as shampoo!
This inviting shade of blue reminds me of a holiday pool. Using a scrub in my hair could be a nice massage for my scalp, though I think it'd feel too much like I was rubbing sand in it.

Ponche Shower Gel Fruity plum and orange gel with davana, buchu and petitgrain oils (and a splash of tequila!)
At first, I was put off by the splash of tequila, mainly because it's become repellent to me (or my liver, rather). But thankfully, it's almost undetectable. What's left is a sweet, fruity shower gel, very faithful to its Mexican Christmas punch inspiration.

Twilight Shower Gel You asked for it, we made it. Deeply relaxing lavender, benzoin and tonka shower gel
The only product that I've actually tried so far, and I really like it. I'm disappointed that I missed out on Snow Fairy (next year, I suppose), but at least I could try Twilight. I'm partial to anything lavender, so I knew this one would be a winner. It's very calming, soothing and leaves your skin delicately fragranced with a sweet lavender scent. I wish I snapped up a bigger bottle at 50% off when I had the chance.

  1. Quite an exciting little haul you have there, the shower jellies do look rather, uh, interesting! I was lucky enough to get a little bottle of Snow Fairy for Christmas - it smells exactly like the bubblegum lip scrub.

  4. The shower pie shower jelly sure does look weird. The box's original price is a lot but it does come with alot of goodies. I wish we had Lush where I live. I am never able to buy their bath bombs even on holiday as they are hard to travel with.

  5. great products! the Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly looks so weird and gross, haha, i'd probably be scared to rub it on my body, especially my hair! but it sounds like a great product. It's like those mud baths that make the skin so soft and renewed but I can never get myself to do it, hehe. gosh, it feels like i'm the only person in the beauty community who hasn't tried Lush products yet :( love your haul hun, have fun trying them out! xo

  7. Love this Lush haul! I agree with you about my first impressions of Lush- the strong smell of the store itself really put me off and I only started to take an interest from all the blog posts I read about Lush! I have only tried their lip scrubs but nothing else, not sure what product I would try first though! The shower jelly looks so novel and fun to use however :D

  8. Oh this looks exciting! I got one of the bath bomb tins in the half price sale and been slowly working my way through them. Utter dream! x

  9. I really love Twilight! It is great to use in the shower right before bedtime and the smell isn't too girly (so my boyfriend uses it as well) Snow Fairy is insanely sweet smelling and it's a bit much for me to be honest! Nice post :)

  10. I've yet to try any because they aren't exactly cheap and I agree the mix of scents is sooo over powering! I think though scents like simple fruity ones and relaxing scents will be types I'd be willing to try since i do love lavender and soft florals! Thanks for sharing, the colors of those scrubs still sort of scare me though!

  11. I always get Lush as a gift for some reason. Def put that Santa scrub into a container and make sure not to get it wet - mine's a sodden mess right now :/

  12. Lush <3!!!
I went in the boxing day and it was 50% off too but everything was gone! Only managed to pick up 3 items.
The box definitely looks worth it :)

  15. Lovely haul. The shower jellies are so much fun to use and Ponche is so delicious. I wish I'd snapped up Twilight, it sounds great.

Snow Fairy is usually brought out again mid-year for Christmas in Jul, so you won't have to wait a whole year!

  18. I have theat shower jelly as well! It is definitely one unique product, at first I didn't really understand how to use. Another beauty blogger suggested breaking a piece off, crushing it, and then using a scrubby puff! It lathers really well this way:)

  19. OMG same here! I only went in there like twice. I can distinctly smell that store whenever I'm in the mall. I'll be walking then *sniff* "I must be near lush", I've actually used that as a landmark. But I do like their lotions.

  20. I used to be like you - I couldn't stand the smell of their shops...but now I'm completely addicted to their fresh face masks and I love their toners too! x

  21. i still can't go in to any lush store. headaches. ;-/
i am into hand made niche bath and body brands, though..like Sabon NYC ;)
nonetheless, i would love to hear about your experience on your new goodies. maybe you will change my mind. ^-^

  22. I got this for my cousins Christmas present! Sweetie Pie is one of my favourites from Lush :) <3

  23. I love the look of the Whoosh Shower Jelly thing! I do really like Lush but contrary to many others, I detest the smell of Snow Fairy, far too sickly for my liking unfortunately. X

  24. I've seen a lot of Lush all over the blogosphere too, but I haven't tried anything! Their products are definitely intriguing and pretty to look at, so I might be giving in soon.

  25. I felt exactly the same with Lush when I was younger but love it now. I've only ever bought bath products but after reading your post I think I might get a few shower things next. Love the tin they come in :) x

  26. I always used to buy the Lush shower products, but when I went to uni, cheaper alternatives soon took over! I've been really contemplating re-purchasing some products soon though! Your post has definitely helped urge me on :)

  27. I looooove Twilight shower gel and I think it does help me to relax after work.. snow fairy is also my favorite ;)
I visited my local lush store last week and they even have 50% discount on some of their permanent range, of course I did a massive purchase. lol

  28. Haha I'm like how you used to be, still don't really understand the appeal.
So many people love Lush, saying they smell good, look good... And they do look nice but I'm afraid the strong scents will irritate my skin. *sigh*

They do look good enough to eat though!

  29. Some great stuff there. I suggest that you break the santa sugar scrub up completely and store it in a container so you just have to pour some into your hand. Its a bit too rough in chunks.

  30. Everything you have here looks so lovely. I wish I had picked up some Twilight shower gel before it sold out! xo

  31. Oh you chose a great xmas pack - unfortunately I was unable to get my hands on a good gift set during their sale this year, I might have to search around to see if any of their stores still have a few good ones! x

  32. You have such a good selection of products in that set! I havent bought anything from Lush for ages. Next payday I may have to treat myself to some goodies!

  33. Haha, I am the opposite - whenever I near a Lush store, I can't help but to be drawn in because of the scent and I love it!!

Twilight Shower Gel sounds like a good one that I might think of trying. I haven't actually tried too much of their shower gel or shampoos - I have tried Jilted Elf though, which might be kinda similar to Whoosh.

I have always been interested in Lush after trying one of their bubble bath bombs but the price always got me as I couldn't justify spending more than $5 on one bath bomb. I went a little too excited during their boxing day sales in Dec 2011 and purchased their gift boxes and some individual products that were 50% off. I've been in and out of their stores recently trying to decide which sale gift box to get!

  34. I've never tried anything from Lush, but whenever I go to the mall I go to the store and I love the smell and see their products, I hope soon to try some Lush products.

  35. I've never tried anything Lush, nor am I tempted to (I guess I'm somewhat immune? hahaha), but you did score some lovely things! The color of that Northern Lights soap is so pretty, though. :)

  36. I hate not having a Lush store in Argentina, I'd love to try their products since people are raving so much about them! I've heard their skincare line is awesome, i'm dying for the face masks, bath bombs and lip scrubs. I love everything you got :)

  38. I've always hated the smell of lush too. I tried to get into it last year when I first found beauty blogs and saw people talking about it, but never really gone back! I love the chocolate cupcake face mask and lemon flutter!

  42. Wow Lena, all the products look so nice, I bet they smell amazing : )
"my makeup quota is exhausted" LOL I was just thinking that and then I go and run out of my BB cream haha Oh well, I guess my eye makeup quota is exhausted but not my face... the excuses I'm coming up with these days are borderline ridiculous!
Enjoy the long baths ^^ xx

  43. The shower jellies are wonderful chilled, but feel just as cold out of the fridge. I usually pull off a little chunk and put it on a loofah scrub. The scent that those jellies hold is incredible! Lush christmas goodies are truly the best.

  47. I'm the same as you or should say the same as the old you. I tried Lush samples, but never bought a full size product. For some reason, they don't draw me in even though the products are good. Maybe I should give another sample a try... hehe~

  52. Oh man, I loved reading the first part of this post, because it's still how I feel about Lush! Anytime I'm nearby, the scent of the store is just so overwhelming, I only go in there when I really, really need to.

Those shower jellies sound really interesting though! May be worthwhile to venture in one day.. ;)

  53. Lush can be super overwhelming at first, but when you get past it, it's sort of addicting. Theres actually a shampoo they have there, called big, which is like a sea salt scrubby shampoo- hard to explain but very cleansing! xx
