Sculpt with Napoleon

Napoleon Perdis recently had a 40% off sale and my friend and I went to the World Square shop on George Street, fully intending to take advantage of such a generous discount. I'd never purchased anything from Napoleon before, mainly as I'm not familiar with their products (with the exception of DéVine Goddess Lipstick in Hara) and the prices are higher than what I'd normally be willing to spend on cosmetics. I don't have a lot of higher end makeup, though my countless relatively inexpensive purchases could probably be better spent on a select number of more luxe products.

While browsing the store, I debated whether to buy a Luminous Lip Veil from the latest Nude Bar collection, in Caramel Kiss or Pretty in Peach (the two were more or less the same on my lips). But I rationalised to myself that I barely ever wear lip gloss and I could probably buy something similar from a cheaper brand like Revlon. Nothing particularly was a must-have, but I finally settled on this Ultimate Contour Palette, seduced by the promise of "supermodel cheekbones" and the possibilities of the three pans: a pearly highlight, pinky coral blush and matte contour shade.

This is a high quality palette. The powder is finely milled, buttery soft and pigmented enough so that a light touch deposits colour, but not so pigmented that it becomes tricky to work with. Brushes pick up the product beautifully and I find blending to be easier. I was most excited about the contour shade, as I'd been looking to buy a matte bronzer for a while so that I could better experiment with contouring. I haven't mastered the technique just yet, but it's been fun to try different brushes and placement on the face. The highlight shade has become a new favourite. It's soft and subtle (without any visible shimmer) but has a luminous, brightening finish. Along with everyday use, this palette would be ideal for travel, containing everything you need for your face after applying foundation.

  2. I've never even tried anything by Napoleon, let alone purchased anything. But this has me interested. I'd love to see how the highlighter looks on your face. I don't own one because I'm a little intimidated when it comes to shiny face powders. Plus I'm not sure how I'd go blending it into the blush. Do you know if they sell the highlighter individually? Keep us posted on whether you end up looking like a supermodel ;)

    1. It's quite a white/pink based highlighter, definitely not bronzy or even slightly brown. The main difference, especially swatched on my arm, is that it creates more of a luminous sheen rather than having visible glitter/shimmer. I'm not sure if they sell the highlighter individually, my guess is no. Haha, it's hard to fake supermodel cheekbones when you have a face as large and flat as mine :p

    1. The creator is Australian but the brand is sold internationally, or at least in the US to my knowledge (they have an American website and US stockists). It is quite nifty for travelling, if only I could master the art of contouring then all 3 shades would be super useful :p

    1. Retails for $45 (Australian dollars). Fairly expensive to me, but then again, a Revlon lipstick in Australian retails for $21.95 :p

    2. Oh my god ... So expensive ! In France is the same ! I don't buy a lot of Revlon cosmetics without lip butter and nailpolishes because I think i can buy better likes urban decay with the same price.
I hope you understand my English <3

  12. hahaha I don't wear much lipgloss so I tell myself the same thing whenever I come across a pretty lipgloss from a higher-end brand. This blush palette looks amazing and the packaging is really cute! I'm not sure if you have NYC in the area you live - but their matte bronzer in Sunny is really good for contouring and it's really cheap too! (Only ~$4 CDN). Or if NYX is more accessible to you, their powder blushes have a couple of browns and taupe shades that are great for contouring as well! :)

    1. It was a really nice lip gloss, lovely texture, non-sticky, nicely pigmented, shiny, vanilla scent, felt really moisturising and comfortable on the lips, pretty colour (gosh, should I have bought it? LOL), but I somehow managed to exercise restraint that one time :p I've not heard of Sunny before, but cheap matte bronzers are always good :) I have heard NYX Taupe blush is a really good contouring shade, not sure if it'd work for my skin tone though. Plus, I'm still very much a contouring newbie :p

  19. This is such a perfect palette! I'm in love!

You could probably get away with just bringing this on short trips in terms of coloured powder...these would make pretty eyeshadows too!

  21. I like the three in one! And for a blush-challenged person like myself, it's nice to have a diagram and what color goes in which part all picked out for me. :-)

  22. Oh I didn't know they had a 40% off sale - missed it =(
I have heard great things about their primer and foundation - haven't tried it yet though.

That face palette is so pretty - especially the blush and highlight! The contour shade could nice as a bronzer too.

  23. SO pretty! And such a good discount too! I just ordered the Bourjois chocolate bronzer from ASOS (so much for no more spending! noooo! but I've been working more since it's holidays, and have justified it to myself :p) and took advantage of their 10% student discount hehehe I'm going to try my hand at contouring. This is truly a lovely palette, and would be amazing to travel with! x

    1. I've heard so many good things about the Bourjois chocolate bronzer, I'm looking forward to your review on it when it arrives :) With contouring, I think practice makes perfect. I'm still getting a hang of it but very slowly improving :p
