Dazed and Diffused

I don't know why it took me so long, but I finally managed to get my hands on OPI The Living Daylights. On earlier trips to Myer and David Jones, this particular polish from the Skyfall collection was consistently emptied out when other shades had nearly full stock. I'd already bought GoldenEye and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and I was beginning to question whether I really needed another glitterbomb. I'd nearly resigned myself to not getting it, reasoning that I have OPI Rainbow Connection, Sportsgirl 100's & 1000's and Ulta3 Over the Rainbow to satiate my multicoloured glitter cravings. But then I saw my friend show up to a girls' night out randomly sporting The Living Daylights. Seeing it in all its glory on her nails convinced me I couldn't let it go.

The Living Daylights consists of uniform, medium-sized silver, gold, burnt orange and teal hexagonal glitter in a clear base. The colour combination strikes me as a little odd, but somehow it works. I did two and a half coats here, mainly a bit of spot application for any bare patches I had after the second coat. The finish isn't rough at all for such a chunky polish. The overall effect is like a camera panning out-of-focus over a shower of glitter particles. Dazzling and eye-catching. You could, of course, not go all out like me, with just a coat of The Living Daylights over a base of some other colour (I'm thinking black would be the most striking). This kind of polish is particularly good for a gradient effect, as the difference between one and two coats is significant.

On a related note, I saw Skyfall on Friday and really enjoyed it, though I'm not sure I'd echo the sentiments of critics calling it the best Bond yet. I didn't love it as much as Casino Royale (which left much more of an emotional impact on me), but it had some memorable action sequences and striking cinematography, especially the scenes in Scotland where the action was filmed from light to dark. Javier Bardem played a compelling villain (loved the anecdote about the rats), though his unhinged mastermind character did remind me a bit of Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight. Parts of the film did have tones of Chris Nolan's Batman movies, but I found it was sufficiently original and different overall. If I had one complaint, it would be that the two new Bond girls didn't do anything for me (though in their defence, they didn't have much to work with). Certainly nothing came close to the chemistry that Daniel Craig and Eva Green had in Casino Royale.

  3. This nailpolish is awesome! The colours work so well together.
I was so, so, so disappointed with Skyfall. The plot was pathetic, the bond girl was a joke, as was the idea of the villain, and there were so many "themes" just for the sake of having themes, and at the expense of a decent story.
They destroyed the Bond character, going to a complete opposite of what was established in quantum of solace and casino royale. It could have been any old action film instead of a James Bond one :(

  5. The polish is gorgeous and would look good with any outfit! For a girl's night out and even the office since the colours are fairly muted!

But I cringe at the thought of having to remove them! XD

  6. such a pretty nail polish!! I think now I'd call you the queen of glitter nail polishes?! lol ;p
btw, I watched skyfall on the premiere and I love it! I am a fan of james bond movies, only after Daniel Craig is the Bond. Daniel Craig is like my dream man, as creepy as it sounds because he's only few years younger than my dad ;p
I went to the red carpet event and he was standing like 1 m from me! It was such a luck that I didn't collapse in euphoric. lol.

  7. Beautiful polish. I was in Myer today and saw the stand of Skyfall polishes; all of them are soooo pretty. This one has different coloured glitters from the usual rainbow glitter top coats. :P xx

  14. This is so pretty! Pretty even for 2.5 coats! It takes so many coats for me to get that even, and it's so rough after. :T Was just wondering, have you tried Revlon Colorstay nail polish in Fall Mood? I hear it's a great rose gold. :)

I have yet to go see Skyfall. I'm kind of James Bond purist...haven't seen any of the Daniel Craig ones. So a little undecided still. I guess I should, though. My favorite Bond was definitely Roger Moore, haha.

    1. Nope, but I've been introduced to it recently by missglamorazzi's Instagram :p I love rose gold polishes - I kind of think Orly's Rage is still too frosty for my tastes, so I'll definitely have to check that one out!

I'm so bad, I haven't seen any old school Bond movies. I hated Pierce Brosnan as Bond, so I much prefer what Daniel Craig has done, and how the franchise kind of got a much-needed reboot with Casino Royale.

  18. Very pretty glitter. I'd have never thought that this combination would look good together but it does.

  19. Omg the entire Skyfall collection is amazing! I love Goldeneye and this looks amazing as well! I watched Skyfall 007 about a week ago, and I really liked it! You are right though- I see some Batman-esque connections in this movie. Overall, I really enjoyed it though.

    1. $28?!?! That's absolutely crazy! I thought that OPI was expensive here (each polish retails for $19.95). Such a shame about the price discrepancies for beauty items around the world :(

  29. Polish is awesome and I agree, the girls were far more platonic so to speak in terms of their part in the storyline. The make up on serevine has been done again and again, it was simple, sultry and vampy especially since the eurasian actress already had such prominent features!

  30. wow this looks amazing. I've purposely been avoiding this collection as i'm trying to not spend money especially on nail polishes as I think I have to many but this is gorgeous.. It's definitely going on my wish list :)
