Pure Glitter

I didn’t really go crazy in the post-Christmas sales, but I did have a good look around the beauty section of department stores, Mecca Cosmetica and Kit. I spotted NARS Enchanted cream blush on sale at Mecca for $23 (from $45). It’s probably not a NARS blush I’d set out to buy at full price (Laguna and Luster are next on my wishlist), but discounted NARS isn’t something I see very often (at least in physical Australian stores), and there was only one left, so I was reluctant to pass it up.

Swatches of Enchanted are misleading — it looks like a decently pigmented soft peach with gold shimmer. On the skin, unless you're extremely pale, there's next to zero colour payoff. It fails spectacularly as a blush. Not only does it require 3-4 layers for just a subtle peachiness to come through, but the amount of glitter for such minimal pigmentation is overwhelming. Not shimmer, but glitter. You can see the gold/diamond particles, but what's extraordinary about Enchanted is there are larger chunks of glitter that remind me of miniature glass shards. They’re predominately gold but flash clear or almost white in the light. You can kind of brush them off after the product has set, as the pieces sit on top of the cream and don't adhere to the skin very well.

Enchanted is more an extremely festive cream highlighter better suited for parties and special occasions. The glitter factor is way too much for everyday wear, but you might be able to away with it if lightly and sparingly applied. Just be prepared to see a lot of glitter on your face every time you look in the mirror, particularly under artificial light. Otherwise, I imagine you could use this as a cream version of a shimmer powder on the body, mainly to add sparkle to the dĂ©colletage, shoulders and neck, kind of like The Body Shop The Sparkler. This might also work as a cream eyeshadow, either as a sparkly base or lightly dabbed on top of powder shadows to add a finishing dusting of glitter.

  1. What a bummer it's doesn't have good color pay off! The shade looks pretty buy I doubt it'll show up on my skin tone. Also, it's still pretty expensive even on discount. Looks like international cosmetics are very expensive in Australia.

  2. i can imagine this blush to be really pretty from far away, and photograph well, but close up, it might look abit weird, given if the gold particles stay on. at least you can find a way to make it work for light body shimmer/eyeshadow base :D

  3. It's a shame this wasn't as good as expecting, but I guess you still get a special highlighter from it?
Luster and Laguna are high on my hit list too!!!

  4. This is so glittery - how odd! I think I'd only wear a glitter like this on the eyes, or maybe as a special effect makeup? Shame! But I'm dying for Luster too so I hope that one is nicer for you.

  5. When I looked at the marked down price and the first picture, I was thinking "what a gorgeous blush and a good buy"! But it's really a bummer that it's not as pigmented and the glitter particles are overwhelming. The base peach colour suits your skin tone amazingly though, but yeah, 3-4 layers seems a bit too much for a cream blush. Like you said, I guess you could use it on festive occasions! >_<

  6. Aargh! The glitter! It is my intention this year to tone all that down. Still, for that price, and a handy party item it's not bad. Love Nars x

  7. Looks so pretty on the pan, too bad it's so glittery. Would be better without the shimmer in my opinion or like you said, could be used for the body instead. Hope you can make it work ^^ xx

  8. What a shame it doesnt work well as a blusher! On the bright side at least you didnt pay full price for it! Then I would have been annoyed!

  9. Aww the swatch looks so pretty but the glitter chunks are disappointing.
I would have picked it up myself though if I saw it for $23.

  10. What a disappointment! It looks gorgeous in the pan, I'm always drawn to peaches. I looove Luster, it isn't an overly pigmented blush but it looks gorgeous against my skin tone. Hope you try it soon :D xx

  11. I like the creamy texture of it, I'm so fair it'll probably suit me lol, xoxo.

  12. Hum! No wonder it was marked down! Oh well, at least you can try to do something with it, it's not a total loss! Still a bit of a let down! Especially for NARS.

  15. Ugh how disappointing! I can't believe you found it on sale though, bargain price (if it was worth it, that is).

  16. The Mecca staff were keen to point out their sale on NARS items but I'd seen Enchanted in a blog sale and did some research a while back and the reviews weren't good. They sounded exactly like this post! Not enough pigment. Some suggested using a stippling brush to knock away the glitter, not sure how that would work, but glad to know you've made it work as a cream highlighter! Bet it doesn't compare to Jemma Kidd's though. Kicking myself for letting that one go! Although this isn't great, Penny Lane and Cactus Flower are said to be lovely. I'm eyeing Laguna bronzer too! I wish Crush Cosmetics would restock NYC's Sunny, but if they won't, Laguna's the next bronzer on my list, along with Bourjois Delice de Soleil.

  17. Wow that is a lot of glitter. That would definitely put me off. x

  18. Wow, that's way too much glitters for me! I'm not against a bit of shimmers for some natural and healthy radiance, but this... hmm!

  19. It looks so gorgeous swatched but it's so glittery! The glitter is quite chunky. I think I would have bought it anyways just because it looked pretty on the pan xx

  21. It's a beatiful color but too much glitter for me that i have a lot of pores on the cheeks :/ But I understand you, I couldn't resist to Nars sale :)

  22. Tha's why it was so cheap! At least you can use it as you said, as a body highlighter!

  23. Ah, how sad that this not so affordable product seems to be such a fail. It seems like they've got great or failish products! So sorry for the waste of money but on the other hand your review has helped us out! Maybe use it as an eyeshadow base?

  24. Before I even got to your last paragraph, I was thinking it'd be a good party highlight! It's pretty but I can definitely see it being too overpowering for everyday wear. Hey, discounted NARS is still a deal!

  27. I'm not a huge fan of pieces of glitter in a blush. It looks lovely and peachy in the pan though, very misleading! x

  28. aw no, that's so disappointing! i dont like glitter all over my face either, i feel too juvenile then. at least you got it on sale :/

  29. Oh no, that's so disappointing, such a shame, as I was just thinking how pretty the peachy colour looked in the swatches when I read how displeased you were with it xx

  30. oh no that's so disappointing :// but at least you got in discounted , otherwise the disappointment would be double T.T

  33. Ahhh I saw this at Mecca in Djs and picked it up as well! I actually wasn't that disappointed with it as I initially brought it to use as a highlighter. Such a shame that you were though! :( x

  35. That looks like glitter city! Not my kind of blush. It does look difficult to work with.
    Hmm..

  36. Yikes, sorry this didn't work out for you. I totally agree that that would be too much glitter for me for everyday wear.

  37. I really really hate any products with that kind of obvious sharded glitter, like eyeshadows or blushes. It's such a shame that these were too over the top! :\

  38. When you swatched the blush, it looked gorgeous! Sorry to hear there's no color payoff and so much glitter. Thank you for your review!

  39. Oh wow haha that's a bummer!!!! I think I would have been the same - can't pass up NARS on sale in Australia!

  40. I'd be tempted to use it as an eye shadow for a special occasion or in summer. It feels like it could work better than a blusher... Shame that it wasn't as brilliant as you hoped, but thank you for the review and swatches. x

  43. Well I like the color, but I think it has much glitter. It really is a nice blush despite having much glitter. I think that would be very nice brown skin as well give it a touch of tan.

  44. So unfortunate that it wasn't a good blush, it looks so pretty in your swatches there! Guess that's why it was on sale - too good to be true :(

    ReplyDelete
  45. So unfortunate that the blush isn't pigmented! I've had pretty good luck with NARS, so this sucks! & they're never on sale.. makes you wonder why this one was, hey? Haha

    ReplyDelete
  46. oh I have a highlighting blush from NARS which is so gliterry as well and it looks amazing during summer:)

  47. woow what a steal! I wouldn't care what colour it was for that price ;) It's a pretty color & perfect for special events!

  48. i love the revlon cream blushes. they look really bright but are so very wearable.

  49. too bad it doesn't work for you as a blush x.x
even if is a sale product, it shoud work well and is a Nars product!!
so much glitter for me, maybe as an eyeshadow??

  50. What a disappointment, that glitter is too much for what the blush is. :T

  51. What a shame for this NARS blush to be too glittery and not being very pigmented. I'm not a fan of very pigmented blush though as I tend to overdo it but I can imagine the glitter of Enchanted to be over the top! I quite like the shade of the blush though, despite the specks of glitter.

    ReplyDelete
  52. i agree with you, too much glitter for a face product is not for everyday use, it's such a disappointment from Nars, especially coz the shade is so gorgeous! i dont want chunks of glitters on my cheeks, that would look bizarre. hehe. tiny shimmers are ok for highlighters to boost up the glow factor, but glitters, nuh-uh.. no thanks. thanks for the great review hun! good thing i changed my mind purchasing NARS cream blushes. i'm not a fan of glittery blushes.
